Well Spike, that is most interesting. Two questions:- 1. How did you receive the notification? 2. Have you made any changes to your profile or any other changes on PG recently. If so then what were they? Whilst awaiting answers to those two questions I have had another look at the forum and have now found what MIGHT BE a possible solution. No guarantees unless someone tries it! I need some of you to try this becase as an administrator some things work differently for me. SO TRY THIS - In the top menu, immediately under the tag 'Penwith Genealogy', you will see the Home, Help, Search etc. buttons. From that list do the following:- 1. click on the PROFILE button 2. under 'Edit Profile and Settings' there should be a NOTIFICATIONS button. Click on that. 3. under Forum Notifications scroll down until you find the PARTICIPATED option. 4. you should see a little box at right which says 'never' and includes a down-arrow - click on this arrow and you will see four other options - 'smart', 'instant', 'daily', 'weekly'. 5. set this box to one of the available options. In this case I would suggest using INSTANT. 6. update a post (this one will probably do) and then see if you get a notification when it is updated again. I don't know if that will work but it is certainly worth a try. CT Sorry been out to lunch. I went over to the ProBoards Forum to have a poke around after Tonkin/Roy's comment and CT's response. Then had a blind fiddle here and yes it was settings/edit profile/notifications. I had everything set to never, but now PMs are Instant and Participated is Smart. So that gave me Roy's reply to mine but curiously I havent received notification for CT and Zib. It may well be a 24 hour thing (or smart is every 24 hours and instant is, well, instant.

Hi, Spike,
I think it's more like once or always (or until the twelfth of never...?) Smart is once until you read the post??

Errrr, well, whichever of the above applies, Zib's post notification came through 15 mins after it was posted on here.

I guess that would be "instant" enough when it comes to genealogy. I think some of this relates to subscribers to multiple ProBoards sites and how frequently they want updates. Spike, if you have an emergency and I can help, I will!! Let me know if you need my cell phone number. Actually, my plan would be to dispatch CT to your rescue.

AS I tend to check in to the forum on a regular basis I see all threads that are updated and act accordingly so this has never really been a problem for me. For everyone else - I suggest a 'trial and error' approach whereby each individual tries the different settings and monitors the change for a while until a setting is found that suits the individual's needs. Zib, thank for your kind offer in case of an emergency. Yes, I think CT to the rescue would be appropriate especially in case of bushfire. And looks like Roy can help if I'm wandering aimlessly in Victoria, looking for a cornless pastie. Anything else, I'll be in touch.

Well done. Was alerted by email to replies for personal message and participated in thread. This should also work for my own threads when I receive a reply. Appears the alert was there all the time but we never knew about it. Always learning.

Oh. I also found a setting for this..... Enable Drafts Saves your posts periodically during creation. Some might find that useful

AHA!!!!!! Now that one I do like!! (And I will be making that adjustment in my settings very soon!) AS for the notification about alerts - I could put it in an Admin message as a 'sticky note' but I suspect it would rarely, if ever, be read. I will look at some options but at least for now we have a few members who are wise to the required settings and will be able to help if asked. CT

It really is strange to be getting alerts from PG after all these years. If possible CT the alert notifications would be better if included in members profiles, giving them the option to be notified when they receive a reply to their thread. Enable Drafts. Very useful indeed so thanks Spike.

The option actually is in the Profile - problem is that it is not on the main profile page and you have to navigate to it via the 'edit profile and settings' button.
Unfortunately I think that is a design problem that I have no control over.

Well I found it fairly easily. There are a lot of other things that didn't exist when I first joined. Great, if you are a social media user but not for me!

I'm with Londoner on the 'social media' issue - I refuse to have anything to do with Facebook or Twitter for example. And I have been receiving invitations to join LinkedIn recently .................. but they have been from Russia and in Russian!! (And yes, I have been deleting them!) The only problem there is that they could be from connections to the Truveller family. But mention of 'social media' does remind me that Spike never gave a clear answer as to just HOW he received the notifications of PG updates! Was it via email or was it through social media? Roy might also be able to help with that question. The answers will be helpful to all who wish to receive notifications. CT
