Curious as to where the Nankivell came from and who is Mary Elizabeth Glasson.

and who is Mary Elizabeth Glasson.

She is Bridget Mary Elizabeth Glasson, daughter of Cornelius Glasson and Elizabeth Foley and she was born in Brompton in Kent in 1850. Cornelius went to Australia as a pensioner guard in 1852 as you can see from below. Cornelius was formerly an Irish soldier who was married three times - a daughter to the second marriage and a son to the third. This family added significantly to the West Australian Glassons and was somewhat involved in local public affairs.

Bridget Mary married Armstrong in 1867 and Chapman in 1879. She died of heart failure in 1929 in Victoria. It is interesting to note that the name Bridget most likely comes from the first wife of Cornelius - Bridget nee MOREN.

Ship - William Jardine - arrived at Fremantle on the 1st August 1852.
This ship was used as a convict transport and left Plymouth on the 3rd May 1852 bound for the Swan River Colony. The ship carried 102 passengers and 212 convicts. Of the 102 passengers, 95 were pensioner guards and their families - that is 29 pensioner guards, 23 wives, 19 sons and 24 daughters. The following were included:
Glasson Cornelius, aged 41, private, 58th regiment - son born in Melbourne (?)
Glasson Cornelius... child
Glasson Bridget Mary... child

At about six o'clock last evening the corpse of an old military pensioner, named Cornelius Glasson, was found lying in a vacant grant near the Old Recreation Ground. The body was at once removed by the police to the Colonial Hospital, where Dr. Stephens performed a post mortem examination. At nine o'clock this morning an inquest was held into the cause of death, at which the coroner's jury (consisting of Messrs. J. Arnold, A. Jones and J. Bridges- returned a verdict, in accordance with the medical evidence, of 'Death from natural causes.'

If you look at the NSW births you will see a birth of John Glasson to Cornelius and Bridget Glasson so it is clear that 1852 was not the first time Cornelius arrived on board ship in Australia.
