I am opening this discussion with a quote from another thread.
This refers to the earliest known Curnow family at Paul which is Richard and his wife Prudence for whom no marriage, to my knowledge, has yet been found. There are baptisms for seven children baptised at Paul - Richard (1691), Mary (1693), Prudence (1697), Margaret (1699), William (1702), Phillis (1604) and Jone (1706).
Richard Curnow left a Will which was proved in 1736 and in that Will his first-named son was Philip. No baptism has been found for Philip but he provided a link with the Towednack family when he married Ann daughter of Peter Curnow at Towednack in 1724.
In the quote above it is claimed that Richard Curnow was baptized at Ludgvan in 1670 to Jane Curnow of Gulval. On the face of it that seems a reasonable conclusion ........ however! I can now see a number of reasons to query that conclusion.
1. The first-named son in Richard Curnow's Will was PHILIP inferring therefore that he was the eldest son
2. The earliest baptism found at Paul is for Richard in 1691 so it follows that Philip was probably baptized earlier
3. Based on the points above the marriage should have taken place sometime before 1691
4. If Richard was born/baptized in 1670 then he potentially married at age 17-19.
5. With no marriage found there is currently no clue as to the identity and maiden name of wife Prudence
6. Perhaps the biggest point - PHILIP is a Curnow name from MAWGAN IN MENEAGE!
Food for thought!

Phillip son of Richard & Prudence yes; and per me, (I may be mistaken, I am dodgy on this lot in Paul and did find brother Richard-and-Prudence-the second's naming of their earliest children as Joan, Francis & Thomas unsettling, until you now tell me CT that Prudence the 2nd was a Tremewan, thus these names are for her mother, deceased brother & father/brother - guess who wore the trousers in that household!) the 1st Richard & Prudence is the Richard Curnow baptized August 1670 Ludgvan to single mother Jane Curnow of Gulval, with Jane being daughter of John Curnow & Joan Vibert, John Curnow being one of the 2 sons named John of the “original” Thomas Curnow of Towednack – so yes indeed all (well, nearly all!) roads lead back to Towednack.
