I was wondering if we had previously discussed this lady.. born in 1846 and found in the 1851 census as a nurse child.
I have written that she was the illegitimate daughter of Ann but I did not record whereabouts I obtained the snippet from.
But I do know for sure that the Charles Glasson born in May 1864 at St Clement Workhouse was her illegitimate son.

Lannanta - I do seem to have vague recollections of this but that is all. I have just tried to find a bit more but they appear to have spiked the brickwalls now with 3-inch nails and my noggin has succumbed to tenderness! I finally found Hannah in 1851 as 'Glalson' but beyond that I have been able to find neither hide nor hair of she or Charles except for the possible birth entry of Charles in FreeBMD. If you have anything at all other than what I have found then please direct me to it and I will see if I can make any progress from there. CT

Nothing I can add mate. I tried to find a birth for a Hannah in 1846 but although there were a few options for alternate surnames I could not see any easy of way of proving anything. I, like you, could not find any trace of them after the 1851 census and the two Ann's who I have generally not accounted for in the 1861 census were both a bit young.

Lannanta I have just tried again to check through my available baptisms for the Truro area but been unable to find anything. I checked Truro and St Clement but there may have been other records kept for the Workhouse. I also checked all my Non-conformist records but also found nothing. Ancestry has been a problem for a couple of days now so I have had only limited chances to check the Census again but a general search of 1871 for anyone named Charles born Truro or St Clement about 1865 has shown nothing of use. This might remain a mystery for a while yet. CT

I was wondering if you were privy to the availability of any new records since we last discussed Hannah Glasson of Truro. I believe that she appears in the 1861 census and 1871 census as Annie Glasson at Ferris Town before moving to Devon before the 1881 census where she appears. I then believe that she married William Ritchens Coleman in 1883 at Plymouth however on her marriage she does not list either of her parents. In the 1891, 1901 and 1911 census she appears by herself as a widow still in Plymouth with William having dies in 1890. Interesting to note that she did not stay with her step-children.
It is then probable that she remarried around 1921 to a Thomas Martin also in Plymouth before dying aged 71 years a few years later.

Lannanta - unfortunately the answer is no. I have had another look through Truro St Mary Baptisms from 1844 to 1849 and Truro St George 1846 to 1849 but there is absolutely no sign of her. I have also rechecked my NC records for the Truro area and found nothing.
I don't have any workhouse records at all so unable to help on that score either, sorry.

Never mind CT, I am hoping that when she married a second time that she might have been a bit more forthcoming with who her mother was and I am hoping for her mother to be Ann. I would not be surprised if she was given out as a baby and may actually not know at all. I will let you know in a couple of weeks either way. Many thanks for your help.

I don't think we have a baptism for Charles either do we? There are still quite a number of NC registers that have either been lost or have not yet become available but then it is also possible Ann was never baptized. But it is not much help at all if her birth record can't be found either!

CT - somewhere I found a baptism for the 13th July 1855 at Breage.
I will wait for the second marriage certificate and hope for an Ann as her mother.
