Cornish Glassons in Queensland

I have a problem that I do not seem to have just the right access to the Aussie records to solve.

I have a death certificate ex Queensland for William Glasson dated 24th July 1957, aged 88 years a grazier from Ashgrove. Now I know that this man was in fact Richard Gustavus William Leonard Glasson, a son of Richard Glasson and Annie nee Tom, descendants of the family from Breage and discussed in "The Glasson Saga".

Back to William, I know that he married twice, first to Mary Rowena Treweeke when he was aged 21 years in 1890, New South Wales. Mary died in 1939 and William then married Elsie Madeline Geraghty when he was 59 years old.

I also know that he had at least the six children listed on the certificate..... but my issue is the reference to the young son named William John Glasson (informant at the death) - and interesting to note that there was an older son named William Hector Glasson. At the time of the death in 1957 William Hector was 65 years old and William John was 33 years old. This suggests that William John was born in 1924 - while Mary Rowena was still alive.

The WW2 records have this William John and a reference to his next of kin being a William. William John appears to have been a poet in his time and also went by the name of Bill... he died in 2004 at Dalby, Queensland, husband of Dolores and father of at least four children.

So my problem is this:

My question is..... was William John Glasson the son of Mary?

Back to William, I know that he married twice, first to Mary Rowena Treweeke when he was aged 21 years in 1890, New South Wales.

If Mary was just 16 at the time of marriage she would have been born about 1874 or possibly 1873 if the marriage was earlier in 1890.

My question is..... was William John Glasson the son of Mary?

I refer to my note above about the possible age of Mary when she married. If William was born in 1924 and Mary was age 16 at marriage then she would have been 50 or possibly 51 when William was born.
I guess it might be possible but I do think it less than likely that Mary would have been under 16 at marriage which means that she would certainly have been age 50 or over at the time William was born but we should look at other events as well.

I have checked the Queensland Birth Index and found the following children for William and Rowena:-
1892 - William Hector
1893 - Katherine
1893 - Annie Olga
1895 - Dorothy Howard
1896 - Mary Rosalind
1898 - Harry Cecil

A further 26 years would have elapsed to the time of William's birth in 1924!!!

Questions
1. do you have any record of the age of Mary Rowena Glasson when she died?
2. do you know anything about Mary Rowena Treweeke including names of parents?

The answer to 1. will be very interesting whilst I think I can answer question 2. for you if you do not already know.

Although I have not yet found a birth record for her I do believe it probable that Mary Rowena belongs to the family of William Henry TREWEEKE and Maria Theresa GLASSON who had a number of children in NSW before moving to QLD.

William Henry TREVEEKE and Maria Theresa GLASSON were married in the Bathurst district in 1863.

Children in NSW all registered in the Orange district:-
1865 - William H
1866 - Cedwick
1869 - William H
1871 - George H
1873 - Maria T

Children in QLD:-
1877 - Richard Hugo
1880 - Emma Blanche
1882 - Frank Leslie

I have tried numerous combinations but so far been unable to find a birth record for Mary Rowena. Mostly I tried searching using just variations of the surname with no parents names included. There is of course a gap between the marriage and the birth of the first child in the index.

The bottom line is that I very much doubt Mary was the mother of William John Glasson. Unfortunately the Queensland Birth Records are only available on Index up to 1914 but I think it more likely that the younger William was an illegitimate son of William snr or an illegitimate son of one of the daughters but possibly raised by his grandfather.

Mary Rowena was the oldest daughter ... therefore she was born about 1864 - I have a date in February but no source so I cannot rely on it

I note that in the 1925 electoral roll William is in Queensland and I do not see a mention of Mary Rowena, and in 1930 Mary Rowena is in Leura, New South Wales while William stays in Queensland right up to his death in 1957. It would not be hard to see William living with someone else, maybe even Elsie who he marries following Mary's death in 1939.

Yep, that would work. I had also considered Elsie a possible mother to young William but was not aware of the fact that there appears to have been a separation in the family.

Elsie Magdalene Geraghty daughter of John Geraghty and Ellen (nee Golden) was born in Queensland in 1899 so would have been about 25 when William was born.
