Hi All - I was advised some time ago by a FHS in Manchester that the Proboards site which hosts Penwith Genealogy is to be upgraded. To date I have not had a chance (or at times remembered! : to check out the Beta site so I don't know much about it. However I have just received notification when I logged in that the upgrade will occur sometime between April 29th and May 29th. I suspect you will have all received the same notification at the top of the screen below the login banner. Please note that you will have to log in to your account again after the upgrade so make sure that you all remember your login details - account username and password. PS - I just tried to test the upgrade in the Beta testing area but was unsuccessful. To perform the test a copy of our existing forum is made in the Betatest area of Proboards. This allows administrators to play around and test features as with any beta site. Unfortunately it seems that ONLY the person who created the forum can do this. Even though I am an Administrator I cannot create the test copy of the forum as it was actually created by Kathie. Looks like we will have to 'fly blind' when the upgrade is done in a few weeks! CT

That's great news CT. One would think Kathie would explain the new changes to us, but as you say, we will just have to 'fly blind' and work things out once the changes have been implemented. Wonder what the new features and functionality mentioned is all about Roy ... from Down Under.

Roy - it appears to be a new version of the site (V5) - probably a bit like going from Windows 7 to Windows 8. Unfortunately circumstances in Kathie's life have prevented her being part of PG for quite some time and she very rarely, if at all, logs in these days and would be totally unaware of the changes. I should have thought that anyone with Admin Status would be able to replicate the site and 'sus out' the changes but unfortunately it is not the case. But I might have another way to find out! Perhaps the person from Up North who first alerted me to the change might be able to post some information for us. I will check. CT

I'm lost for words CT. What's the difference between a Moderator and an Administrator here on PG Roy ... from Down Under.

Roy - I don't know what the process was to set up the site but I guess there is some sort of security feature involved to ensure the site is not compromised. Kathie would be the 'Site Owner' and Administrator with the ability to grant Administrator privileges to others such as myself. I can perform most Admin functions such as moving posts or threads and banning users (such as those who joined this site purely to advertise! : . I have sent a request to the Manchester FHS to see if someone there might give us a rundown on the changes but have so far not had a response. CT

I have an update on the upcoming upgrade of Proboards. When I logged in today there was a notice to staff which included a short video which provided a brief overview of the changes we are about to see. Most of this is about the look of the site and enhancements to various functions which are under control of the Administrators so it looks like I might have a bit of study and work to do! From the members point of view things should really operate much the same although the format will look a little different. Initial logins after the upgrade will require all members to enter their login information again with the security function of having to input your password twice so I once again remind everyone to make sure you know your userid and password. The changeover should be smooth but be prepared for it and I will try my best to get my head around things and keep everyone informed. CT

Hi CT. It appears the upgrade has taken place, but I'm unable to detect any changes. Have I missed something? Roy ... from Down Under.

No, I don't think it has.
I can't find anything to tell me the current version I am logged into but certainly the Help functon still shows V4.
The whole layout will look different once the change is made and the forecast timeframe was 29th April to 29th May. That leaves still more than three weeks.

My error CT.
I did not see the message up top regarding the upgrade and thought it had taken place.
I hate this waiting.

It certainly has happened! And only just in the last few hours so now it is time to try and get used to it after which I will look at any changes that might help make it better.
