For those with US connections, I've just noticed that ancestrydot com are offering free access to the US census collection (1790 to 1940) for a limited period. But hurry - offer ends 3 Sep 2012. I've tried it and it really is free - no credit card details required as for the 'trial period' offer!

And using this, I see a 1930 census entry for San Francisco for a Manuel Curnow age 64, born in Russia, speaking Yiddish...... "Curnow" was what someone has corrected it to - & it does look a bit like that to be fair........! Just doesn't seem likely........ Then there's Robert Curnow transcribed as being a Matron in a mental hospital...... ( straight lazy error - I know nowadays matrons can sometimes be male, but not I think in 1930......) Ancestry (and others) should give prizes for those of us finding the silliest errors ... And it just isn't good enough as CT says for sites to allow "corrections"/ "alternative submissions" without exercising quality control - I've just found a 2nd cousin (or some such) one Thomas F Curnow in New Jersey 1940, clear as day the image says "Curnow"... yet someone has decided it says "Armon"... Yes, when there are free offers like this & the UK 1911, I can't complain, but I sometimes wonder what powder I've slipped into my coffee when I see so many of these in one day.... ;D Sue
