I have a scenario for you to think about and comment on if you get some spare time now that you are a much older man than last week..... ;D
Firstly, as I collected my census information over the years I recorded an Elizabeth Glasson from 1841 to 1871 and she never appeared in 1881 that I could find. I have always had her unmarked as I was not aware of who she was.
I had always assumed that she was the 90 year old who died and was buried in St Erth in 1879.
So finally I got her death certificate to see if there was any information that would help me identify her. Well there were two critical pieces of information.
First was that she was the widow of Thomas Glasson, a tin miner.
But the more helpful piece was that the informant was John Glasson, a nephew, of Lelant Town and I immediately knew who he was - the same John Glasson who married Frances Ann Clemens, and although living in Lelant, was not part of the wider Lelant Glasson family - rather he was from Crowan (comes from spending far too much time in the Lelant Cemetery )
So when I went to my database and followed John's ancestry (his parents William Glasson and Susan Richards) (his grandparents John Glasson and Phillipa Trevean) ( and his grandfather's brother - I came to Thomas Glasson).
At first I was disappointed to see that this Thomas married Jane Goldsworthy, but in a perverse way was overjoyed to see that she was buried in 1833 after having at least seven children.
So the marriage between Thomas Glasson and Elizabeth Webb in 1835 in Crowan then fitted the bill as well. And finally, knowing that Thomas died in 1839 made sense of the fact that Elizabeth was always by herself in the various census mentioned above.
What do you think?
