Time to get back to the hunt for my ancestors ;D

I was browsing around Ancestry looking for a problem in my immediate family and I have found one. Upon looking at the information transcribed in Ancestry I decided to go to my free sources and copy that information into this post:

The family I am concerned with is:

William Baragwanath
Birth: 11 Apr 1785 in Towednack, Cornwall, England - Parish register with help from CT
Death: Apr 1838 in Cornwall, United Kingdom - Free BMD

Jennifer Dunstone
Birth: 20 Aug 1786 in Towednack, Cornwall, , England - Parish register with help from CT
Death: no record found yet

They married on November 11, 1816 in Towednack.

I finally found the corresponding Census Record on Ancestry for 1841 in Towednack.

Comment: Funny how Jenifer's name has changed to Jane all of a sudden but the same two daughter's are still at the same home. I decided to look at the 1861 information for the same house area and found the following.

What conclusions would you draw for the above information, I am kind of confused atm ... in my Jet lagged state atm.

Comment: Funny how Jenifer's name has changed to Jane all of a sudden but the same two daughter's are still at the same home.

No .... not funny at all really! Because Jane and Jenifer are interchangeable names and you will plenty of discussion on the subject throughout this site.

You will occasionally find a Jane and a Jennifer in the one family (both surviving) but very often you will find a person recorded as Jane in one record and then Jenifer in another.

What is more difficult to understand is why Jane/Jenifer was apparently recorded as 'Mary' in 1861.

Jenifer Dunstan had a sister named Mary who first married John Baragwanath and then John Quick. You will find discussion about that family in the Quick section with a title about 'Scandal'.

Mary was still alive in 1861 and living at Lelant and then in 1871 she was living at Nancledrea. Mary died in 1873 and then John Quick married again soon after.
The 'Scandal' part is that John and Mary had separated and John had quite an impressive list of children over many years with Ann Glasson.

I have just spent time trying to find more answers for you but unfortunately these families are proving as elusive as ever .... even with all the additional resources I now have available!

I have never been able to find a record of baptism for Prudence however:-

Prudence Baragwanath of Halsetown age 52 was buried 2nd September 1879 at Towednack

She was at Halsetown in 1871 with her aunt Ann Quick, another of her mother's sisters.

I think Jenifer/Jane is this one:-

Jane Baragwanath of Amalwidden (died at Halsetown) age 82 buried 15th October 1867 at Towednack

That probably makes sense and would be the reason that Prudence went to live with her aunt at Halsetown.
