Good morning CT
Boxing Day for you so I hope that you survived yesterday okay. If you didn't a nice spot of Lambs Navy rum should do it for you. ;D
For a while now I have been working away on the GLASSON marriages and I am now up to the period 1901 to 1911. The other day I came to Annie Louisa GLASSON, married in the Dec qtr of 1906 in the Redruth District. There were two brides and two grooms at that time and by going to the 1911 census I finally concluded that Annie Louisa married Joseph Joachim BURNS - however I could not find this couple in the 1911 census - fortunately I did find the other two so I came to the obvious conclusion. I was not too bothered because, as I only have one Annie Louisa Glasson in my database, I knew that she was the daughter of Richard Kessel GLASSON and Elizabeth Ann HOSKIN.
Concurrently I was also working on the birth of Henry GLASSON in 1909. I had found him also in the 1911 census, as a 2 year old, and I had been unable to find a birth entry for him. In the 1911 census he appeared with his mother Mary (from Wicklow, Ireland) at the household of his grandfather - Thomas BYRNE in Gwinear. Mary's husband was not there. I had decided that the likely husband was Thomas GLASSON, that the likely marriage was in 1907 at Redruth and the likely bride was more properly known as Winifred Ann BYRNE.
However, in a fit of frustration I googled "GLASSON" and "BYRNE" and I came up with an article which appeared in the quarterly publication "Cornish Banner" - written by the well known historian - James Whetter. It was titled "Patrick 'Harry' Glasson: Cornishman in the Spanish Civil War". In the article it states that he was born around 1910, son of a Cornishman and Irish lady nee BYRNE. That their home was probably Tolgas Lane, Redruth. That his father had emigrated to Australia. That he had cousins Reuben BYRNE, Kathleen BYRNE, Aunt Minnie and Uncle Jack of Truro, and Aunt Beattie, who seemed to be his next of kin.
Harry, now known as Pat, was killed in action on the 20th July at Brunete.
So I went back to the 1911 census and did a search for the surname BYRNE, but limited to Cornwall. Once again 2 year old Henry appeared with the BYRNE family at Gwinear, but there was another family there as well - BYRNE S - Joseph Joachim and Annie Louisa being the parents - I did not see them when I searched on BURNS. Joseph and Annie had two children in the 1911 census - Annie and Dorothy.
Suspecting that their surname was BYRNE (without the 'S') I went to the FreeBMD and searched from 1911 to 1921 for births for BYRNE in the Redruth District where the surname of the mother was GLASSON - and whammo!!! along with Queenie up popped Reuben and Kathleen.
Looking at Annie's family I saw that she had a sister Ellen Beatrice GLASSON - and she was most likely Aunt Beattie.
So I was pretty sure that I had put the family together pretty well, except for the father of Henry/Harry/Pat.
Looking once again at the family of Annie, I noted that she had a brother William Thomas GLASSON, and on reading my notes on him I saw the following that I had written earlier -
So CT, can you do me a favour - can you have a look to see if William Thomas GLASSON (probably known as Thomas), son of Richard Kessel GLASSON and Elizabeth Ann HOSKIN, born around 1881 at Perranzabuloe, arrived in Australia anywhere from 1909 to 1911, or even after that.
Also, can you think of why I cannot find a birth entry for Henry GLASSON in 1909 or thereabouts.

In the 1881 census Richard, a farm labourer, and his wife Elizabeth were living at Tuckingmill in Perranzabuloe with their son William Thomas. In subsequent census William was known as Thomas.
