Hi My 3x grandmother was Eleanor Glasson born c 1824 in East Newlyn and she married Abraham Parkin. I have been unable to find a christening for her but came across her parents on Geni Family Tree. The parents are listed as William Glasson and Ann Rowe. William's parents were William Glasson and Lystra Glanvell. The second William was born in Crowan. The tree on Geni has traced the Glassons back to 15th century and they have been found in Camborne, Crowan, Newlyn East, Uny Lelant, St Ives. According to this tree the Glassons descend from the Rosewarne and St Aubyn families. Any more information would be so appreciated. Cheers Deb

Hi Deb - Lannanta and Carole will be the people to help you most on this one and I expect there might be something from at least one of them in the next day or so. I don't have the marriage to Abraham Parkin in my database but I do have an Eleanor baptised at Newlyn East in 1824 to William and Ann. At the moment I show this line back to the marriage of Robert Glasson and Eleanor Thomas at Crowan in 1770. As I recall there was some discussion between Lannanta and myself about this Robert so perhaps you might find some of that if you have a read through the Glasson discussions. CT

Thank you for helping me with trying to find the marriage of Eleanor Glasson and Abraham Parkin. You wouldn't believe it, I did have the marriage of Eleanor and Abraham. I am not checking my information very well, must be my old age catching up with me!!!! They married in the Parish Church of Newlyn in 1853. I am still trying to get my head around the Glasson family, it is becoming so confusing. Will post on the Galsson Board. Thanks again

Hello Deb I agree with CT, Eleanor is as you say she is and does head back to Robert and further onto Robert Glasson and Susanna Mitchell. You are also correct with the marriage to Abraham in my opinion. BUt can I give you a word of caution - in my experience most of the published GLASSON data is fanciful and full of wishful thinking to say the least. Can I suggest that you work away on what you know and what you can show as correct and ignore what is published unless it agrees with what you have worked out as opposed to the other way around. Only recently has some of the information come to light that is necessary to be accurate - a lot of the published information is old and assumed based on limited data - I have seen marriages listed as happening a hundred years after the burial date I do think that your branch of the family comes from Camborne further back, but where they came from before that is a mystery - there is a suggestion that Glasson comes from "Gleysn" or some such word which is supposed to be Cornish for "grass plot". Once again an unproven theory and the family is more likely to have come from the continent as opposed to having been native to Cornwall. Genetics will eventually prove that for us. I, like a number of others, are very keen to reconstruct the Glasson family and we will assisit you as much as possible with your queries, and also welcome what information you have. Lannanta
