Hi Researchers, Thanks for the help on the "Oates"line. Can you help on this one. I'm now on the female side of this line. and stuck at William Reynolds.his birth/baptism and his parents. William Reynolds married Elizabeth Bryan 16/5/1812 at Madron I have found their 10 children. The 1841 census at Naneglos,Madron shows his age as 47 = birth 1793/4 The LDS shows his birth abt.1787 Regards Ron from Romsey.

G'day Ron - and a belated welcome to this site. I do not have this William Reynolds in my database but that does not mean I will not be able to help. I just dealt with this type of problem earlier. It is obvious that the LDS people have not found his baptism but do not blame the LDS itself for this. They rely on their members to record and then submit data from PRs and other information. When you see an entry for a male with a birth of 'abt.' or a female with a birth of 'abt.' then I suggest you be wary. If no baptism is found, or if the LDS member doing the transcription can find either no baptism or is uncertain of the parentage then there seems to be a simple rule that has been used for many years in IGI:- A male is married at the age of 25 A femalie is married at the age of 21 So when you see a record in IGI showing a birth of 'abt.' it most often relates to a marriage record and has used the 'rules' explained above. We all know that this cannot be correct and it certainly makes life difficult for those of us trying to find correct information. It is obvious that your man was aged about 19 when he married and not 'abt.' 25 as shown in IGI. Will work on this as I can but must now get back to unpacking boxes. Ian

Thanks 'londoner' . Ron - could you please supply what information you know about the children of the man in question as this might help determine the parentage of your William Reynolds. Reynolds is a not uncommon name in West Penwith and I have some interest in the name via a branch of the Trewhella Family. Please tell me what you know of the children and also let me all details you have of the marriage and I may be able to do more for you. Ian

Hi Ron, Same day baptisms do not necessarily mean 'twins' so keep that scenario in mind. I have a family who baptised three children on the same day at St Hilary in (from memory) the 1880's and many people have, I think, taken this to mean triplets. The fact is that, although siblings, these three children were some years different in age. I need to get some sleep (it is now 0815 over here) so I will try and look further into this tonight. Ian
