Hi Lannanta (and other Glasson researchers),
You may remember that some while ago we briefly discussed Winifred Lucy Glasson, daughter of Arthur Evelyn Glasson and Matilda Louise Smith, and granddaughter of the Rev Henry Glasson. Winifred had been born in New Zealand in 1883.
We knew that at the time of the 1911 Census 27 year old Winifred had come to England and was living in Brighton, with her second cousins Flora Polkinghorne Pascoe (daughter of Mary Glasson) and Louisa Jaquet (step daughter of Emma Lemon Glasson). That was the last mention I had found of Winifred so had not known if she had remained in England or not.
The new info I have recently discovered was that Winifred married John Addy in London on 23 February 1914. John’s occupation was given as a clerk in Holy Orders. Somehow the name Addy was familiar to me, though I had no idea where it had cropped up before. Today I finally made the connection:
When Flora Polkinghorne Pascoe died in 1927 she had been living with a vicar and his wife in North Petherton, Somerset. The couple had been executors to Flora’s will and she had left her considerable fortune to their church. The vicar and his wife I have now realised were her cousin Winifred Lucy and her husband the Rev John Addy!
I don’t know whether to feel pleased with myself for finally making this connection or rather stupid for not having realised it before!
Winifred and John had 2 sons - Alleyne John Addy born in 1917 in Somerset (interestingly Flora Polkinghorne Pascoe’s deceased brother had been named Alleyne) and Robert Francis Addy born in 1919 in Somerset. Winifred died in 1970 and John in 1972, both in Bristol.
Anyway, I know you have your extensive Glasson database so thought I’d mention this incase you did not know either.
Best wishes,
Carole
