James Glasson, born at Paul around 1809, was the son of John Glasson and Constance Glasson nee Edmonds. Being a customs man his job took him far and wide and he eventually died in the Camberwell District of Surrey and at that time he was married to what has been commonly thought to be his third wife, Elizabeth Jane Hughes, who he married in 1886 at Camberwell. The witnesses at that marriage were his two youngest children, from his first marriage, William Henry and Susan Glasson.
His first wife was Ann Eliza Ratsey, daughter of Thomas Ratsey, and they were married on 24th August 1838 at Paul. Their first two children arrived soon after the marriage; Charles Thomas in 1840 and James in 1841. Susan was much later, and she was born in 1853 when the family was in Carnarvon, Wales. William Henry Glasson was born in 1856, and he has generally been included with the previous three children as a child of James and Ann. Trouble is that Ann died in 1853.
The second wife was Catherine Mary Green and she married James on 16th February 1860 at Penwerris. Catherine died in 1884 while the couple were living in Surrey.
As already stated, James then married Ms Hughes.
But William Henry Glasson was born in 1856 and so none of the three previously mentioned ladies could have been his mother, well two of them could, but they weren't. The missing marriage to make it four wives for James was at Madron on the 16th April 1855, and it was to Jane Tocker Bosustow.
Jane died in 1859 making way for Catherine Green.
William Henry Glasson, son of James Glasson and Jane Tocker Bosustow, was born on the 17th January 1856 at High Street in Kings Lynn, Norfolk. His father was a "Comptroller of Customs".
