Apols...I have only just seen this thread after a long absence from the site.
This matter has been reasonably well covered on a Facebook Group entitled: St Ives Cornwall Family History Group .
Margaretta Jane Brooking was born on on 23 April 1907 at Trowan, St Ives. Her parents were: William Henry Brooking and Jane Brooking nee Bone. (Married in Zennor on 9 May 1903) William Henry Brooking is listed as a Tin Miner living at Trowan, St Ives The birth was registered on 1 Jun 1907.
Jane Brooking appears to have died at about the same time as the birth of their daughter Mary Louise Brooking in Merthyr Tydfil Rd Glamorgan Wales in Q1 1909.
It would appear that William H & Jane were often switching between Morvah, St Ives and Merthyr Tydfil 1901-1907.
1901 - Census - Residing on Stennack, St Ives 1903 - Residing in Wales when Dorothy Ellen born 1904 - Residing in Morvah when Edith May born (Jane Brooking nee Bone was born in Morvah) 1907 - Residing in St Ives when Margaretta Jane born 1909 - Residing in Wales when Mary Louisa born and mother Jane died. 1910 - Mary L died in Wales in Q1 1910
In 1939 William Henry was residing in Magor & St Mellons, Monmouthshire, Wales. William Henry died in Cardiff RD In Q4 1965.
Regarding the adoption of Margaretta Jane Brooking: There are plenty of connections between Uren, Curnow and Hosking.
