There was a man named Isaac Quick who married Susanna Oats in 1717 in Towednack. However I do not seem to be able to locate this gentleman or a record of his baptism. Could it be possible that his name differs from the name he was baptised as?

Isaac Quick was baptised at Towednack 30th December 1691 (OS).
I believe he was the son of Matthew QUICK and Sarah (nee MAJOR).

Good morning Ian
I thought as much but could not find the proof. I am not sure what OS is?
Kind regards

Hi Allen, OS stands for "Old Style" which means the calender date has been 'unadulterated' by modern researchers...

Thanks 'Cousin' - think I answered that also in an answer to a PM - and guess what we came up with the same answer. ;D (BTW - The correct answer!)

Having children in Towednack from 1700 through to 1715 were a certain couple Henry and his wife Jane nee QUICK. The only Henry that fits for me is the son of Anthony hatched around 1668 in Gulval. Henry married Jane in 1699 in Towednack and there was not a note suggesting that he, or his wife, were from elsewhere. Henry, son of Anthony, seems to be a little old to fit - maybe like me he was slow to start??
Then the only Jane that I have found to date that seems to fit is Jane, daughter of John, also hatched in Gulval, around 1681.
I am interested to know if I am on the right track.

Someone had to start on the Quick family. From all work I have done on this family (with others, of course) you have identified the correct Henry Quick. He was the son of Anthony Quick and Elizabeth (nee RANDAL). Jane, however, is where we have a slight problem. I have some notes in my database about this couple dating back to 1999. Those notes suggest that, at the time, most people researching the Quick family suggested that Jane was the daughter of Francis and Elizabeth Quick. To be a daughter of this couple (married before 1644 by my reckoning) Jane would have to have been born before about 1670. Whilst she may have been the daughter of 'a' John Quick (as I have noted) I believe it more likely that she was probably the eldest daughter of William and Elizabeth (nee STEVENS) Quick who were married at Zennor in 1681. This is more likely also because William Quick's mother was named JANE. There is still a lot of work to be done on this family but I am reasonably confident that I have identified the right Jane here. Although dreading it I need to do some more work on the Quicks. I have copies of numerous Wills for the Quick family that I also probably need to review but I believe, currently, that I have identified Jane. Let's see how you go from there and also see what other input might be forthcoming from other members.

Can I assume that the William you mention here was the son of James Quick and Jane Knighte?
If it is, I already have a problem, as I have recorded that Jane, daughter of the above James and Jane married Paul Quick, son of Francis and Elizabeth in Towednack.

Hi Allen
Yes - William was the son of James and Jane according to all the information I have been able to gather.
And also Yes - William's sister Jane married Paul Quick (again according to all the information I have been able to gather and piece together over the years.)
Paul Quick was, apparently, born about 1651 and was son of Francis Quick and Elizabeth (nee PAULE).
I have Jane Quick (d/o James and Jane) baptised at Zennor in February 1665 (B.T.'s) which, on the face of it gives a 14 year age difference.
I have no 'real evidence' of a date of birth for Paul but information was supplied to me many years ago suggesting he was born in 1651.
Paul Quick left a Will at Towednack in 1710.
Please outline your problem for me and I will take a look at it.
PM might be better initially to save congestion on the Board but I will look at the problem regardless as 'quickly' as possible.
Ian
