Really need a bit of a peer review as I am getting a bit mixed up.
Starts with a marriage certificate for John Glasson to Grace Rabling Abraham in September 1882. John is 39 and Grace 31. John dies aged 43 in Camborne in Dec 1886. Grace remarries James Rowe in 1890. From the first marriage there are two Glasson children; Mary Abraham Glasson and John Michael Abraham Glasson (named after Grace's father).
Grace is easy to find in Camborne during the census from 1851 onwards.
The best I can do for John is that he is the son of John Glasson (as stated on the marriage) and Mary Matthews, born 1844 or so in Crowan. In the 1851 census he appears with John and Mary and in 1861 and 1871 he is with his aunt and uncle - Thomas and Grace Glasson at Camborne. Not found in 1881 but he does say that he is a retired gold digger in 1871.
He could be confused with a similar aged John from Redruth who was also a retired gold digger, but he I think is actually a John Henry Glasson, son of our old friend James Lemin Glasson.
Can you see any fish hooks there?

Lannanta - back online now but having trouble keeping focused on anything. I am also unable to find John Glasson in 1881 so I have had a look at the UK Incoming Passenger records. Don't know how much help it will be but there is a record of a John Henry Glasson, miner, age 46 arriving at Southampton from Algoa Bay, South Africa 14th December 1890 aboard the 'Mexican'. He could be the son of James Lemin Glasson. Will try and think more about this problem a little later. CT

Yes I think so, of the two Johns in question the son of James Lemin was mostly known as John Henry as opposed to John.

Whilst a fair bit of work might need to be done to confirm absolutely that John was the man you think he was there is a fair chance that I have found him! An email will be on its way to you as soon as this message is finished but a 'general inquiry' in the main page of FamilySearch provided something of particular interest. 1881 Census - Keithley, Caribou, British Columbia, Canada John GLASSON, single, age 38, miner, (Religion) Free Thinker, born England I could not find him in 1891. As mentioned in an earlier posting I could not find John on the UK Incoming Passenger Lists. But I would be thinking that they are far from complete anyway. This fella would have to be a very good candidate based on the information we already have - particularly his absence from the 1881 UK Census. If he is the right man and is indeed the son of John and Mary from Crowan then FamilySearch also has the following:- England Births and Christenings, 1538-1975 John son of John and Mary Glasson bp. 5th January 1844 Crowan See how that fits the scenario me old china! Lannanta - from the information I have now I would think the father of this John Glasson was baptised at St Erth in 1814 son of Thomas and Jane (nee Goldsworthy). In 1851 the family was at Albert Street Camborne and John's sister Mary (age 21, born Crowan) was with them. Mary daughter of Thomas and Jane was baptised 5th September 1830 at Crowan. Another document is on its way to you. I won't spend a lot of time on this tonight as I have a few other things to organise for you. But I will try and put a little more of the scenario together in the database and await your response. CT
