Hi Does anyone have access to detailed transcripts of Illogan marriages around 1830? I need to know if Edward Trevarthen who married Amy Nicholls on 24th Oct 1830 was a widower.
I'm pretty sure it is the same Edward who married Frances Paul in 1808 in St Ives. (Frances died in 1816).
Edward and Amy were living in St Ives in 1841.
I have evidence that both Edwards were born the same year - 1781, yet I can only find 1 Edward Trevarthen born this time in Cornwall - hence my assumption they are the same person.
Any help on this would be most appreciated. Thanks

Here is the information I have just received regarding the Illogan marriage of Edward Trevearthen and Amy Nicholls:-
From Bawden's Transcript
Edward Trevarthen, sojourner and Amy Nichols married 24th October 1830 Illogan He signed and she made her mark. Witnesses:- Mary Jewell and John Willoughby
It does not clarify the situation but perhaps we should keep in mind that this was 14 years after the death of Frances.
From what I have been able to find it would appear that it must be the same Edward although it is not totally conclusive.

Once again thanks for all your hard work. The sojourner bit is a little more evidence. I'm intrigued as to why they went to Illogen to get married as Amy was from Lelent. Maybe her parents didn't approve of her marrying a widower 10 years older! It's so frustrating not being able to put all the meat on the bones of a family tree.

With nothing to indicate otherwise it appears that Amy was resident in Illogan at the time of marriage.
She may have been employed there, perhaps as a servant.
Given that Amy would have been about 38 when she married I am not sure that parental approval would have been involved and it is possible her parents were deceased.
Her father certainly appears to have died before 1841 when her mother, apparently widowed, was living at St Ives in with son Edward.
