Alan and Roy - I am still intrigued by the fact that you both quote Census records when saying John Vingoe was reportedly born at Gulval.
I have found no indication of this with each Census I have looked at consistently showing John Vingoe was born at Ludgvan and his wife Julia at St Buryan.
As per my last post I think it most likely now that John was the 'bastard son of Jane Vingoe' baptised at Ludgvan 3rd October 1804.
John's age through each Census reflects a birth around 1804 or 1805 so this is all consistent.
And now I think I am at a point where I can identify his mother Jane Vingoe.
The Vingoe name does not seem over-populous with only 417 baptism entries in IGI and the name Jane (or Jenifer) is not common.
At least a couple of factors point to just one possible Jane.
Jane d/o James and Amy Vingoe bp. 7th June 1785 at Sennen
Firstly this Jane seems to be about the only one in terms of age who could possibly be involved and so is an obvious choice but the question of why she was at Ludgvan in 1804 needs to be answered.
And I do believe now that I can also answer that question!
James Vingoe married Amy Courtney 11th May 1764 at Sennen and I have a list of eleven children for them.
Amongst those children was daughter Grace who married Stephen Nicholls at Gulval 31st January 1800.
The Nicholls family was certainly still at Gulval in 1821 when their last child Jennifer was baptised.
Gulval and Ludgvan are neighbouring Parishes so there is a potential link here.
But the much stronger link is with another daughter of James and Amy.
William Blight married Sarah Vingoe at Ludgvan 9th May 1803 and Sarah died at Ludgvan 11th November 1857.
It is therefore not unreasonable to think that an unmarried Jane may have gone to Ludgvan to stay with her sister when it came time to have her baby.
I believe Jane Vingoe married Thomas Semmens at Sancreed 20th January 1807.
BTW - this marriage is recorded in Phillimore with the husband named as Francis Semmens.
However I have just completed transcribing that section of the Sancreed Parish Register and I can guarantee that this is an error and that the husband was, in fact, Thomas Semmens..
Just a couple of final points.
I have checked for the children of John and Julia Vingoe:-
William - most likely named for Julia's father William Murley.
Julia - named for her mother
John - named for his father
JANE - died age 2
Francis
James
JANE
James
Thomas Henry
The remaining names do not appear in the immediate family of Julia so it may be that they are all from the Vingoe side - dependent of course on some form of tradition being involved with the naming of the children.
Note that the names JANE and JAMES were used twice.
JANE - I would think this is a reflection on the name of John Vingoe's mother
JAMES - Jane Vingoe had a brother James but it was also the name of her father
FRANCIS - Jane Vingoe also had a brother named Francis and I should think that would be the connection.
I have checked the Bastardy Bonds and unfortunately can find no reference to a 'reputed father' for John Vingoe.
Finally - Jane's sister Sarah Blight had a daughter Sarah who married into my Trewhella family.
She also had a grandaughter, Johanna Jenkin, who married into the same Trewhella family.
Many descendants of these last two are in America.
