Honour GUY became my 5th great grandmother when she married Richard TONKIN in St Levan on 26 October 1793.
I have spent years searching the records trying to find out her birth details and who her parents were but have found nothing.
Any assistance on this one would be appreciated. I also have a spare brick wall if required.
Regards,
Roy, from Down Under.

Not having much luck here either Roy. But it looks like she 'may' have been the Honour Tonkin of Roskestle buried 5th February 1837 at St Levan age 76. It would mean she was born about 1760 would therefore have been about 12 years older than Richard which is not out of the question by any means. The last child I have recorded for her was James in 1803 so she would have been about 43 then which is not a problem either. Judging by the names of the children I would be thinking her father was probably either William or James with the first three children being obviously named for Richard Tonkin's side of the family. But the only baptism that is close is for the daughter of William Guy at St Just in 1762 who appears to have been buried in 1769. There is no indication in Phillimore that Honour was a widow when she married Richard Tonkin. However I would not discount the possibility for two reasons:- 1. Not all widows/widowers were recorded as such when they remarried. 2. It would certainly explain why no baptism can be found or would at least offer a reasonable explanation. Other than thls possibility I am stumped for the moment. Nope - there is one other explanation that comes to mind right now. She might also have been illegitimate and baptised under her mother's maiden name then taken the reputed father's name a little later. CT

I suspect that she might be the daughter of William & Honor of St Just, but as you say there is no baptism to match.
They also had a son Abraham - probably the one who married Mary Nichols ( 1 Jan 1790 St Buryan) and they also had a son James (bp St Buryan-30 Sep 1798) purely circumstantial evidence but.....

Hi there Londoner,
I have been looking at William & Honour and their two sons for some time. It is very possible that Honour belongs to this family and if I keep looking I may just find a connection.
Many thanks for your input.
Roy from Down Under.

Thank you also for your input CT. I think the Honour who died in 1837 may be her. It also crossed my mind she was previously married, but I came up with nothing even close in the records. I did come across an Honour Guy who died and it is possible this may be her mother.
It may be her parents were William and Honour Guy of St Just, and Abraham and James were her brothers. It all seems to fit in so I will keep working along these lines for now.
Thats another problem solved ... almost.
Until next time.
Kind regards,
Roy from Down Under.

If we keep working on it an answer will be found sooner or later.
It may take a while yet but a bit of confidence and tenacity and I am sure we will get there.
