does anyone know the identity of the John Wallis who m Johanna Lavars (daughter of James, b 1788) 23 Apr 1817 at Madron (IGI)?
I have found three children for them and he is described as John Wallis Gent. at the marriage of two (Joanna (m 1860 to William Rodd) & Elizabeth Mary (m 1845 to her cousin Edgcombe Lavars) His wife appears to be widowed by 1841(visiting Sancreed with Elizabeth while the other daughters are at home in Morrab Place, where Joanna is still in 1871) There is a possible burial at Madron 31 Mar 1840 of a John Wallis age 68, and an entry in 1823 Pigot of a John Wallis builder of New St.

Londoner - using IGI only for the moment the John buried in 1840 may possibly be the son of John Wallis and Elizabeth Richards who married at Sennen 23rd January 1768.
John was baptised at St Buryan 19th August 1770
John and Elizabeth from St Buryan baptised a daughter, Mary, at Sennen 22nd October 1782.
IF the burial belongs to the husband of Joanna then first looks suggest this John as the most likely.

That ties in with what I have found from other sources, and would make him cousin to Joseph (son of my Robert & Mary) who lived in the same Terrace as the widowed Joanna. There is a will at CRO for the John who died 1840 will have to check it out some day.

However - one complication - yet another John Wallis (of Buryan) m Elizabeth ROBERTS at Ludgvan 16 Jun 1768. How can we be sure which children belong to which couple?

With great difficulty! We could start with this:- Elizabeth wife of John Wallis buried 20th January 1795 at Sennen IGI shows only four baptisms at St Buryan for children of John and Elizabeth Wallis so we might need to look at Sancreed. There are none at Ludgvan and only the one at Sennen which I should think belongs to the John and Elizabeth who married at Sennen. That is Mary bp. 22nd October 1782 at Sennen. But if you find multiple children with John and Elizabeth as parents you had best also be aware that another John WALLIS married Elizabeth HUTCHENS 14th May 1786 at St Buryan. CT

Regarding Elizabeth RICHARDS who married John WALLIS at Sennen in 1768 - I think she is most likely the following:-
Elizabeth d/o James Richards bp. 21st October 1744 at Sennen
Her parents would be:-
James RICHARDS of Sennen married Jane ELLIS of Sennen 1st December 1730 at St Buryan

Another way to possibly check at least some would be to view the St Buryan PR and see if any of the four entries refer to the family 'of Sennen'.

Yes - he was the son of John Wallis and Margaret and his brother Robert was the one who married MARY HUTCHENS according to information I have been given, and lived at Sancreed.

I thought it was a little familiar! Will have to have another look through all my PR info and see if I can spot anything helpful. CT
