After much searching I finally tracked down the identity of my great great grandmother, she is Elizabeth Trezise. I believe that William Thomas 1810 and Elizabeth Trezise 1808 were married on 2 April 1831. I have copies of birth certificates for two of their children, Thomasin Thomas 23 Jan 1840 and Rachel Thomas 28 October 1855, in both cases the mother's maiden name is Trezise. Any information on this couple or their families will be received with much gratitude. Another brick out of the wall.

Biggles - seems that I have once again neglected to read my own notes and also the second page of the 1871 Census!! So I have it in my head now that Rachel was indeed a sister to the widowed William in 1871. This means that another of my basic working scenarios is still holding up. When Rachel was born her mother would have been about 48 which is the age I generally work on for a woman to be having her last child. (There are exceptions of course) CT

Hi KT
We both originally made the same mistake when reading the 1871 census, looking only at page 13 we did not continue to page 14 where Rachel is the only entry.
Rachel’s birth was registered in the last quarter of 1855 in Penzance Vol 5 page 310.
The birth certificate contains the following:
No: 17 When and where born: Twenty eighth October 1855 Tregeseal St Just Name if any: Rachel Sex: Girl Name and surname of farther: William Thomas Name, surname and maiden surname of mother: Elizabeth Thomas formerly Trezise Occupation of father: Tin Miner Signature description and residence of informant: William Thomas Father Tregeseal St Just When registered: Twelfth November 1855 Signature of registrar: John Davey Deputy Registrar
Rachel’s elder sister Thomasin’s birth was registered in the first quarter of 1840 in Penzance Vol 9 page 213.
The birth certificate contains the following:
No: 169 When and where born: Twenty third of January 1840 at Botallack St Just Name if any: Thomasin Sex: Girl Name and surname of farther: William Thomas Name, surname and maiden surname of mother: Elizabeth Thomas formerly Trezise Occupation of father: Miner Signature description and residence of informant: The mark of X Elizabeth Thomas Mother Botallock St Just When registered: Twenty seventh of January 1840 Signature of registrar: John Davey Registrar
Will work on the baptisms and post soon.

Thanks Biggles - that helps.
I have had to begin to slow down about in recent weeks due to the potential fire season here but will be doing my best to keep up with things.

Recycling an old brick in the wall.
After rereading the information available and the observations of Cornish Terrier I now believe that Loveday Thomas 1883 is a daughter to William Thomas and Elizabeth Trezise.
A none conformist baptismal record for the Penzance, Wesleyan Circuit has a Loveday James Thomas born 20 Feb 1833 and baptised 17 Mar 1833 daughter of William Thomas, Tinner of St Just, and Elizabeth. The middle name of James may be a clue when looking back further in this tree but this appears to be the only record of a Loveday James Thomas, after this there are only records of Loveday Thomas’.
In the 1841 census there is a Lovdy Thomas aged 8 a couple of house away from William and Elizabeth, this I believe is their daughter and she may have been staying with neighbours or it might have just been recorded on the wrong line. Looking at the records Lovdy does not appear to be tied into any family group. Lovdy is a phonetic spelling of Loveday but in 1841 it has been incorrectly transcribed from the original as Lundy.
On the 07 Sep 1850 a Loveday Thomas aged 18, father William a miner of Tregeseal, married a Chrisiphorus George Batten aged 20. In the 1851 an Oneciferous George, aged, 21, Tin Miner, St Just Cornwall, his wife Loveday George aged 18 and child Elizabeth George aged 1 were recorded as lodgers with William and Elizabeth. This as got to be the Batten’s and it is reasonable to assume that this is there daughter living with them just after her marriage. In the 1861 and 1871 census the family are in Truthwall, St Justin Penwith and in the 1881, 1891 and census the family are in 1901 Boswedden Tenement, St Just in Penwith. The spelling of Loveday and Oneciphorus George varies as does their ages but the children maintain the continuity.
Oneciphorus George died in 1897 and Loveday died in 1902, their children were Elizabeth Ann Batten 1950, Rachel Thomas Batten 1853, Mary Jane Batten 1854, Clandiana (Clodina) Batten 1857, Onesephorus George Batten 1859 (possible death 1894), Caleb Batten 1862, William T Batten 1864, Gabriel T Batten 1868, and John T Batten 1870.
I would appreciate any thoughts or information about this family.
