Hi Jen,
Thanks for the private message too. This is an interesting one, all the more because we have:-
25 April 1803, William Mitchell Davey bapt. s/o William Davey at Penzance.
&
15 Jan 1804, William Davey bapt s/o Nicholas Davey- who we presume to be the son of Nicholas Davey and Ann Mitchell.
17 June 1797- William Davey marries Margaret Mitchell at Madron
10 Nov 1793- Nicholas Davey marries Ann Mitchell at St Ives, Nicholas Davey is of Paul.
Taking the trail back on the Mitchell side of things, Ann Mitchell's trail seems to lead back to a Kevarne Mitchell baptised at St Ives although thereafter the name would suggest they were from St Keverne itself, with several baptisms at regular father to son intervals as far back as c1590.
Having a look at Margaret Mitchell some interesting comes up because it seems to go back to William Mitchell and Mary Pender married in 1769, Madron by licence.
That name Pender, may have strong connections with Paul. In 1748 we have a William Davies marrying a Mary Pendar, whose descendants (grandchildren) are contemporaneous with our William Davies (1799-1870) who have very "similar" names for their children.
Having a look at Mary Pender Mitchell,
I have found:-
Mary Pendar bapt 4 Aug 1751, Paul to Oliver Pendar and Mary Stevens (married Paul 1745)- have a feeling that Oliver Pendar and Mary Pendar Davies (w/o William Davies) may have been siblings but haven't checked.
or
Mary Pendar bapt 17 June 1753, Scilly Isles, to Sampson Pendar and Mary
?
I can't find much more on Sampson, other than that all the Sampson Pendar's baptised seem to be in the Scilly Isles bar one in 1622, the earliest, at Madron.
_____________
Right, on the Davey/Davies side of things.
Nicholas Davey, I can't find a baptism for him in Paul. That's just about par for the course isn't it?
Poking around a bit, I have found:-
Nicholas Davey bapt 1762 s/o Alexander Davey at Saint Just.
or
Nicholas Davey bapt 1763, 1773 Jan, 1773 Apr at Saint Just to Nicholas and Catherine.
Baptisms for Alexander are a bit confusing. the trail seems to lead back to Gulval and also St Ives for the moment but not for sure. Yet there is a marriage at Gulval in 1759 to Sarah Andrew, and then in 1724 an Alexander Davey marries Elizabeth Paskoe at Madron- could be the parents/grandparents. There are the following Alexanders baptised, 1760, 1762, 1771 at Gulval to an Alexander Davey.
Marriages for Nicholas and Catherine however lead back to only one, Nicholas Davey and Catherine Garter married at Gulval in 1755. All very suggestive indeed.
As far as William Davey (who marries Margaret Mitchell) is concerned it's a bit more tricky, especially given that Madron Penzance could more easily include people not of the parish itself etc. However, sticking with Madron/Penzance for now.
1.William Davey bapt 1760 s/o Thomas Davey at Madron.
2.William Davey bapt 1761 s/o William Davey & Grace at PAUL
3.William Davey bapt 1776 s/o William Davey at Penzance.
1. Marriages for Thomas Davey at Madron 20 years prior to 1760 (nil), one very early marriage in 1741 at Gulval between Thomas Davey and Jane Davey, or one later marriage in 1759 at St Buryan between Thomas Davey and Mary Harvey.
2. Would appear to be William Davey and Grace Bennets, married at Paul 1753.
3. Very diffcult to tell but there is a William Davey who marries Mary Ann Dunkin in 1774 at Madron. Going further back a William Davey marries a Joan Bond in 1766 at Gulval.
Much earlier William Davey marries Anne Renowden at Gulval, 1751.
Well, that's about it.
Nothing conclusive, but a lot that may be suggestive of some king of connection between Davey families at Gulval and female lines at Paul.
A link between Davey and Mitchell.
If anyone has any peripheral information please contribute! Thanks in advance,
