Hi, I have only just discovered this fascinating website. I have been 'dabbling in Family History' for a while now but it was only earlier this year that i discovered my 'Cornish connection' My GGGrandfather, Arthur Carvossa Matthews came to Australia (along with his brothers Robert and and Matthew Carvosso Matthews) on SS Plantar in 1858. Then on the other side of the family we have Pascoe and Dowah families (both of these prior to 1800 ) amongst many others. We were fortunate enough to be able to visit the Penzance area in August this year and were just blown away by the friendliness of the people as well as the beauty of the land itself . Sita

Hello, welcome to the site. I have Carvosso in one of my family lines in the Paul area throughout the 18th century. We may have a connection, let me know. Have you done any work on the background of your ancestors before they emigrated?

Hi Malcolm, Yes, I have done a little bit of work about the Matthews family before they emigrated 'down under'. Arthur Carvosso Matthews was born about 1840 in Paul. His parents were ( I think ) Robert Matthews and May Phillips Carvosoe. Robert Matthews apparently was a widower (at 21 ) when he married Mary Phillips Carvosoe. His first wife was Mary Matthews - they had one son, Robert Matthews. Do hope this makes sense. S.
