Hello, In my endless brickwall demolition quest another possibility I have been looking it is:- William X is born to Mother X 1900 +/- 3 years, he is either illegitimate or his father dies and Mother X (re-)marries someone by the name of Davies- William X then becomes Davey/Davies. I did find one possibility for this:- 1798 there is a William Harvey "bastard" of Elizabeth Harvey baptised at Paul. In 1799 an Elizabeth Harvey marries a Mr William Davies at St Levan- I can't find any more records to confirm if this is the same Elizabeth Harvey but it might be an interesting avenue to explore. It raised the question (assuming that we have the same Elizabeth) 1. Did the Harvey boys, of whom there are a lot around Newlyn-Paul , go around and "convince" Mr William Davies to marry their sister/daughter? 2. If so can we hazard a guess that William Harvey was named after his father and thus became William Davies "legally"? Does anyone have any background on Elizabeth Harvey and then Mrs Elizabeth Davies?

Malcom - whilst I think it quite possible your William may have been illegitimate I do believe you are clutching at rather long straws with this particular possibility. From Phillimore, IGI and a transcript of St Levan marriages on West Penwith Resources:- Mr. William Davies married Elizabeth Harvey 22nd January 1709 at St Levan This being some 90 years before the marriage you have quoted makes the link somewhat precarious! The 1799 event does not appear in any of the above-quoted sources. CT

Dash it all! I must have misread something, I was sooooooo sure I had something. The OPC search (ID 411321) definitely gives 1799 so there must be an error. Grrrr! I know what you mean about straws, but I am determined to explore every possibility before giving up...! With the popularity of this particular surnames I have ruled out about 20 which leaves another 1.5 million to go.....! Thanks for spotting the error...

Malcolm - you are quite right about the OPC listing.
I only found one reference which was much later and a completely different Parish.
But I now realise that I searched for W Dav and it would be listed as 'Mr Wil....' on the OPC search.
Will get it corrected.
