Hello there everyone,
In our ongoing research for the Davies/Davis/Dav(e)ys or Paul/Newlyn a couple of names have turned up that seem interesting. If anyone has any more information on them please let me know...
Henry Nicholls Davies b1798-ish Paul s/o Francis and Mary. I have found a Francis Davies married to a Mary Nicholls at Falmouth but am cautious about assuming an automatic link. Henry seems to vanish from the records, I can't find him in later census information at all. Also, the Falmouth connection seems a bit odd, yet there is only one child baptised at Paul on record.
I also have a Francis Davies Thomas and a Caroline Davies Thomas. Caroline is the daughter of Peter Thomas, mason Penzance but is baptised at Paul to Peter and Frances/Fanny, I can't find out any more about this Peter and Fanny other than a paper trail leads back to a Lucretia Dalle/Dale. Caroline marries William Berryman and a witness is Alexander Berryman who is also a witness at one of "my" Davies weddings. I can't seem to establish where the Davies part comes from- interestingly they alternate between Davies/Davis and Davy in the records.
There also seems to be an interesting connection to the Dale family as one of my Davies' is a witness at the marriage of Abraham Lawry and Selena Dale and vice-versa.
Later on a Lydia Davies marries and Andrew Nicholls Dale at Madron in 1865- Lydia Davies is the d/o Francis Davies farmer at Penzance- yet census details seem to indicate Crowan. I can't find much that is conclusive about this lot at Crowan and the census details seem to conflict/vanish on certain individuals.
I know it seems like clutching at straws but there are a few question marks over some of these Davies' and even if we can only rule them out then we are a step closer in identifying my elusive ancestor's background!
Thanks in advance,
M
