CT et al
Edwin Quick (master mariner), son of Israel Quick and Sally Richards, rarely if at all appears in the census. However, his wife Annie Matthews Maddren does, first in 1851 at her sisters place in St Ives, in 1871 and 1881 in Monmouthshire in Wales. The only child that stands out to this couple is Edwin William who was born in 1859 in Newport, Wales.
I cannot find them in 1861 but they should be in Newport, Edwin junior only being one year old. Annie was listed as being married in 1871 and a widow in 1881.
However, at first glance I cannot find a death for Edwin senior - any clues?

From what I can see I would suggest that Edwin's occupation might provide an answer for you. BTW - you will find a few of our St Agnes/Perranzabuloe Quicks in Wales in 1881. Don't have time at the moment to check them all but certainly a few of them plus a couple of others from further west.

I never found a death entry for Edwin Quick senior but he obviously died between 1871 and 1881 somewhere in the world. His wife Annie lived on until 1903 remaining in Wales. Her son Edwin married Kate Mary Williams and ended up in London.

In 1881 Census I can find two Edwin Quicks, one Edwin Quick aged 21 assistant teacher - head of household is Alfred Gibson
The second is Edwin Quick Brother in law aged 18 head of household is Charles Townsand - George Quick brother in law and Kate Quick sister in law - are also there
Both Edwins are born in Newport the first in Monmouth and the second in Hampshire.
I am presuming that the first Edwin William Quick assistant teacher is the son of Edwin Quickand Annie Maddren

Yes, I would agree with that.
