CT et al
John Quick (miner), sojourner, married Phillipa Teague in St Enoder in 1819. They had at least; Jane, Jane, Amelia, James, Phillipa and Samuel.
In the 1851 census wife Philippa works as a housekeeper, however she is still listed as married. In 1861 she is a widow living with her son Samuel who is a tailor. There are a couple of options in the Truro district for husband John's death.
Daughter Amelia appears in most of the censuses.
This John could conceivably be the son of John Quick and Grace Harris and baptised at St Agnes near Truro in 1796 - having as siblings a James and a Samuel.
Appreciate your thoughts.

I still have some work to do on this but early indications are that you may be correct! What might help you is the 'missing child' of John and Philippa:- John Teague Quick s/o John and Philippa bp. 28th March 1823 at St Enoder I believe this to be the John Quick who married Jane Francis in the St Columb R.D. in 1853. In the 1861 Census at KEA you will find the family of John and Jane with a lodger by name Millicent Francis. John was recorded as being age 38 and born St Enoder which is an exact match for John Teague Quick - especially given he was the only John Quick baptised at St Enoder. The question must be - is it simply coincidence that he turns up at Kea in 1861? Will do some more work on this and post any other findings as they happen. CT

Perhaps something else to support your idea is that John son of Paul Quick and Elizabeth (Trenhail Liddicoat) of Kea married Ann Stevens who was born at St Enoder.

An item as a matter of interest:-
In 1851 James s/o John and Philippa is lodging at St Enoder with William and Jane MERRIFIELD.
Simon James Quick MERRIFIELD s/o William and Jane of Summercourt was baptised 30th December 1860 at St Enoder (born 22nd May 1858)
William MERRIFIELD married Jane QUICK St Columb R.D. September Qtr 1848
In 1851 Jane Merrifield is age 30 and born St Enoder so I would suggest she was a sister to James and, therefore, daughter of John and Philippa.
Also interesting to note is that there are baptisms for two daughters of John and Philippa with the name Jane.
I cannot find a burial for the first and must wonder whether it may have been the same daughter baptised twice - especially given Jane's age of 30 in 1851.

The family ending up around St Agnes (where Philippa was in 1851) and Kea certainly suggests the possibility of a link to that area and lends support to John having been the son of John and Grace.
However I am uneasy that John's age is recorded as 40 in the 1841 Census and also that I cannot yet find him in 1851 when he was apparently still alive.
Also missing in 1841 are the two eldest children Jane and John.
The only possibilities I can find for son John are up around London so nothing conclusive can be taken from that.
However I think Jane will be the Jane Quick age 15 who is a female servant to the family of William Bennetts at St Merryn.
Taking a look at the John Quicks baptised in Cornwall between 1790 and 1800 does show that there is really only one possibility for the husband of Philippa Teage - and that is the son of John Quick and Grace Harris bp. at St Agnes in 1796.
As John states in 1841 that he was born 'in County' I have to agree that he must have been the son of John and Grace.

Whilst on the family of John Quick and Grace Harris there is one more son that we know little about.
The eldest son was James who was baptised 26th December 1793 at St Agnes.
In the 1861 Census he is at Landaff, Glamorgan, Wales age 67.
He is widowed and a 'proprietor of houses', born St Agnes, Cornwall.
His name is transcribed for the index as 'James F Quick' however I do not believe that middle initial is correct.
A comparison of other writing on the page suggests to me it is actually 'H' which would be a reflection of his mother's maiden name of Harris.
Checking FreeBMD I believe this will be him:-
Deaths Mar 1866 (>99%) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- QUICK James H 71 Cardiff 11a 162
I believe I have tried once before to find a marriage for James without success and I have also not yet found him in the 1841 or 1851 Census.

I agree with your assertion with respect to Jane.
I believe that you will find John as an 18 year old servant of William Langdon in Ennis, St Enoder. In 1851 he had moved to Mitchell in Newlyn East and after that he appears as the husband of Jane in Kea/Kenwyn.

Hmmm - I would suggest you will be right but I don't know how I missed him. Never mind - I am certain he is the one who married Jane Francis so another small step is taken. And except for possible children we also appear to have now laid James to rest. (Eldest son of John and Grace) So that appears to be St Enoder out of the way and I will be interested to see what you throw at me next.
