Hello everyone,
Following on from some research that I have been doing and not without the great help of CT either, , I have come across some hitherto unknown links to N.East Cornwall.
Does anyone have any connections to the BUDE-KILKHAMPTON-JACOBSTOW-ST GENNYS area? Any pointers?
I have some annoying brickwalls that have come up (see my motto below )
Grace LUXON-
1. I have a feeling that this is interchangeable with LUXTON
2.marries Eleazar Cornish (1704-1788) at Poughill 2 June 1742
3. I have found an LDS record of Grace LUXTON baptised at Saint Gennys 3 June 1717 to Richard Luxton and Elizabeth. There are two other Grace Luxtons at Saint Gennys, a baptism of 1755, and a marriage of Grace Luxon or Luxton in 1780.
I figure they might well be related.
Mary GREENAWAY/GREENWAY
marries Alexander Cornish at Poughill 5 April 1774
1. Not much luck here, the only baptism I can find is a Mary Greenaway baptised to William and Mary 21 Sept 1743 at Kilkhampton. This would make her at least 31 at marriage and here last child born well into her 50's- ought to be cautious on this one I think. Two "possibles" are at Saint Breward on Bodmin Moor in 1748 and also recored at Bodmin in 1750- they are a bit farther afield however.
2. Witnesses recorded on the OPC are Ellezer CORNISH and
Philip GRENAWAY. Philip could be the brother of Mary, indeed there is also a Philip Greenaway baptised to William and Mary at Kilkhampton in 1753.
3. The trouble with the Greenaways is that there's undreds o' they at Kilkhampton!!!!
MARY JEWELL
marries Alexander Cornish (1777-1856) at Stratton 22 Oct 1806
1. One unconfirmed LDS record gives an approximate date of 1785 at Jacobstow but no parentage-
2. The OPC records her as being of the parish of Jacobstow.
There is a very early record at Launcells of a Daniel Cornish (same family) marrying Hope Jewell in in 1666 who may have been from Marhamchurch. 140 years is a bit of long time to suggest there was a connection between these two families however.
Anyway, I hope this information might help someone out there and if anyone has any more on these characters please let me know!!!
Thanks in advance,
M
