I am a little more than familiar with this one.
Mind you, it did take me a while to work it all out but I succeeded in the end.
One thing about this of which I am not certain is the identity of the witness - Elizabeth Jane Quick.
And another slight setback is that I cannot find Robert's birth in FreeBMD and nor have I found a baptism for him.
However - the solution to the problem.
In the 1861 Census at Back Street, St Ives you will find the family of Paul Quick - i.e. his widow Mary Ann and children - James, Jane and Mary Ann.
Mary Ann QUICK, head, wid., 50, washing & c, Towednack
Catherine BAWDEN, daur, mar., 24, St Ives
James QUICK, son, unm., 18, farm labourer, St Ives
Jane do., daur, unm., 16, St Ives
Mary Ann do., daur., 11, scholar, St Ives
Robert do., son, 4, St Ives
Albert BAWDEN, son-in-law, mar., 24, sailor, Hampshire Portsmouth
From St Ives Marriages:-
7 Jan 1860 by Banns
Albert Boulton 23 bachelor Mariner of St. Ives (Father: Joseph Boulton, Farmer)
Catherine Quick 22 spinster of St. Ives (Father: Paul Quick, Barber)
Witnesses: John Quick, Thomas Williams
Things change a little in 1871:-
Stennack, St Ives
Catherine BOLTON, head, mar., 33, mariner's wife, St Ives
Robert Q do., son, unm., 14, farm labourer, St Ives
Joseph H do., son, 10, scholar, St Ives
John Q do., son, 3, scholar, St Ives
In 1881 Robert Q BAWDEN was a farm servant indoor to Thomas and Cordelia HOLLOW at Trevalgan, St Ives.
Robert was actually the illegitimate son of Catherine QUICK, d/o Paul and Mary Ann.
I think I have previously posted much of this in another thread but I am not sure that I had found Robert in 1881.
But it is certainly him. ;D
BTW - Youngest brother - John Quick BOULTON married Mary Matilda TREWHELLA in 1886.
John died at Perth, Western Australia in 1928 and Mary died there in 1937.
They had, I believe, only the one child - son George who was supposedly born in 1895.
I have not yet found his birth but my information suggests that he came to Australia in 1911.
This information came from George Henry TREWHELLA of Perth whom I met many years ago when he was visiting his daughter in Melbourne.
While I am on this subject I will have another look around to see if I can find any further details of this part of the family.
