Ok Dear Sleuths - it is time for me to see what some of you may be able to do to help me solve a 'Trewhella' (sic.) problem.
Please refer back to another page in this forum relating to Alias Names.
My dilemma here concerns a group of Trewhella (sic.) entries in the Breage Parish Register that I have not yet been able to successfully trace.
I believe it very likely that there is a connection to a certain Christopher Trewhella who was in the Helston and general area somewhere about the relevant time period but ...
I will simply list the PR entries I have recorded and see what happens from there.
BREAGE BAPTISMS 1603-1792
1665 Trewhela, Charitie d. Thomas of Kennegie 30 July
1668 Trewhela [ ] s. John & Mary 20 March
1678 Trewhela, Mary d. John 15 December
1680 Trewheela, Elizabeth d. Thomas of Renzy 14 February
1681 Trewheela, John s. John of Pengersick 17 September
1694 Trewheela, Mary d. John & Elenora 15 April
1701 Trewhella, Thomas s. John 18 May
1702 Trewhela, John s. Henry & Sarah 25 October
1706 Trewhela, Welmet d. Wylliam & An 7 May
BREAGE BURIALS 1559-1837
1598 Trewela, Henry of Godolphin 27 Feb.
1699 Welmot (Trewhella?) Polglase 7 June
1699 Thomas s. John Trewhella or Polglaze 14 Feb.
1707 Elenor Polglaze 25 Oct.
1708 John Polglaze 3 Apr.
1710 Chestian Trewhela,widow 30 Mar 1711
According to 'A Handbook of Cornish Surnames' (G. Pawley White) 1972 - there are 12 places in West Cornwall named Polglase.
I may have a few other odds and ends regarding this 'dilemma' in other documents but this is what I have been able to find for now.
So - GO FOR IT! and let us see if a solution can be found!
