James H. Quick appears in the 1881 census at the house of his grandparents John J. Quick and Martha at Burrow Road in St Ives. I am assuming that this is James Hodge Quick.
If I am correct James Hodge Quick was baptised at the St Ives Methodist New Connexion Chapel on the 4th June 1877 and was from Badcock's Square, the son of William and Grace Quick.
There was a marriage for William Quick and Grace Hodge in early 1877 and a death for a 24 year old Grace Quick around the same time as the baptism of James Hodge Quick.
William, the son of John J. and Martha Quick remarried in 1899 to Catherine Humphreys Veal.
Do you agree with those assumptions?

Lannanta - assumptions no longer. James Hodge Quick was born on 22nd April 1877 and his mother, Grace, died on the 24th April (Barnoon Cemetery). Grace was born about 1853 d/o Samuel Hodge and Elizabeth Rowe who married 9th February 1842 at St Ives. CT

Well, why you are running hot - In the 1871 census James Quick and Nanny Eddy (from Towednack) are recorded at Bellyers with three children; Mary J., Annie and James.
In the 1881 census it appears as if the same James is now married to Elizabeth J. who is from Hayle.
FreeBMD does have an appropriate death for an Ann - December quarter 1876, aged 36, which coincides with the youngest child in the 1881 census - Andrew who is aged 6 - and the name fits with Ann's father - Andrew Eddy.
However, although there is a marriage for James after 1876 and before the census, it is to a Elizabeth Ann Gilbert which does not quite fit.
Are you familiar with this family?

Lannanta - I am certainly familiar with the family although previously unaware of the second marriage. The family in 1881 (except wife) is certainly that of the same James. The fourth child, John, was born at St Ives 3rd October 1871 and baptised there 5th October 1883. Andrew Eddy Quick was born 5th January 1875 at St Ives and also baptised 5th October 1883. 5 Oct John c/o James (Labourer) & Ann Quick of Market Strand b. 3 Oct 1871 5 Oct Andrew Eddy c/o James (Labourer) & Ann Quick of Market Strand b. 5 Jan 1875 As you can see the mother is recorded as Ann Quick which is correct but I might have expected her to have been recorded as 'deceased'. The discrepancy in the name 'Elizabeth J' as opposed to 'Elizabeth Ann' is unusual but not unheard of in the Census. Unfortunately I do not have that marriage in any of my records so am unable to verify one way or the other. Likewise the burial of Ann (Nanny) does not appear in what I have. And to make things even more difficult - the whole family is gone by 1891. (And I can find no trace of them in Victoria.) Unable to help any further at the moment. CT
