Greetings to all in Cornwall. I hope to glean some information on my wifes family history and maybe contribute information as well. I would also like to get a more detailed understanding of the very interesting history of Cornwall itself and this looks like the place to be. My wifes family is linked to the tin miner Thomas' of StJust and the Joll family who migrated to South Africa and then again to Australia.
Best Regards David

Welcome David - good to have another Aussie on board. There are several people here now interested in the Thomas family so join right in and we should be able to find some answers amongst us all. And don't be afraid to get yourself involved in any discussions you find interesting or think you may be able to help with. CT

Hi welcome.
My family are rumoured to have dispersed to many countries, I’m a Thomas returned to Cornwall and the first generation not to be a miner. There were, and still are, a lot of Thomas’ of St Just, a lot of them scattering around the world when tin mining declined in the later part of the 1800s. A big problem is it seems to be a Thomas family tradition to stick to certain Christian names and this makes unravelling the roots a little difficult. There are lots of people willing to help and get you through those brick walls. Good luck and welcome aboard.

Hi, Biggles and David. Not the St Just area, but closer to Penzance (Madron/Heamoor/Boswarthen). My late father knew the following persons and I have some biog.info on them if it means anything: Renee Thomas d 1997, aged 87 Last known address available. Gordon Thomas, born pre-1920, childhood friend of my father. Served in India. "Big Ben Thomas" and "Little Ben", who lived in same road as John Eddy and "the Noy`s farm", and "Mrs Jordan", and W B King, my grandfather. David

Thanks for the quick response guys. I will jump into the surname section and explain our known links and where they stop. We actually have Thomas' marrying Thomas' so it does get confusing. We have a William Thomas marrying a Ann Gilbert Thomas and then on it goes... Penzance and St Just are my ending places at the moment.
My wifes great grandmother was Ruth Thomas who married a Joll went to South Africa then New Zealand and stayed with Thomas' there, then back to South Africa then came to Australia married to a Foster. We have lots of postcards of correspondance between siblings between South Africa, NZ and Australia which make it all really interesting. Thanks for your support. Another David
