I have purchased the marriage records from CFHS for Crowan which show that my ancestor Henry Trevarthen married a Mary ? on 21 Oct 1721. There is no last name for Mary and I was wondering if anyone had access to other records which might show this.

Just checked Phillimores for Crowan, and like a lot of parishes at that time only the wifes Christian name shown. I suppose it depended a lot on the vicar at the time, as some parishes did show the full name very early on.

Crowan was notorious for this in the early days so the best hope of finding out who Mary was would be from a Will. Problem is that we do not have a clue what particular Wills to look for. We also do not know that Mary was actually originally a Crowan girl. Now I certainly do not suggest you go out and purchase every Will for the period at Crowan in an effort to find the information but there may be a way to eliminate some at least. Zenobia has a link on this site to her Home Page where she has 14 files of Wills Abstracts which are mostly West Penwith. It would not hurt to log in there and have a browse through all those Abstracts. And don't just look for Crowan Wills - I would suggest checking all the Wills for the mention of the name Trevarthen. To save you trying to find the link just use the following and it will take you there:- webs.lanset.com/azazella/default.htmThere is also a link there for Dee's Home Page where you will find a lot more Wills abstracted so you should also check those. If nothing else it will give you something to do for a lazy afternoon or three! CT

I've come to the same brick wall as you have, although I would like to know more since Henry appears to be my 5xgreat grandfather through his daughter Mary Trevarthen who I have marrying John Lobb in Crowan 6 Jan 1748/49. I have most of Henry's children born in Sithney - do you have any different information?
As regards Crowan Trevarthen wills, azazella has extracted one for George Trevarthen (1725) and there is also listed one for Robert Trevarthen (1717), who I believe to be Henry's father. I think that Henry himself died in Sithney (1734), but there doesn't seem to be any Trevarthen wills listed for Sithney.
