The following is additional information regarding William Fuller Newton and family, particularly the children. From the 1901 Census (ages at census shown): William Fuller Newton 47, Sarah Ellen (Vincent) 47, Wm. Thos. 18, Richard 16, Robert 15, Hilda 13, Eveline May 12, John 10, Sarah Ellen 9, Edward Passmore 7, George Henry 5, Gladys Maud Mary 8 mos. I believe Richard died about June 1903. Wm. Thomas and John emigrated to Canada in 1911/1912. Edward Passmore married Loveday Ann Goldsworthy in Sithney in March 1925. In 1945 I believe George Henry and Sarah Ellen (Nellie) were living in Canon's Town, Eveline in Penzance, Gladys in Nancledra and Robert in Plymouth. Any information post 1901 would be appreciated. I have not found a relationship between the Newton and Passmore family lines that would explain Edward's second name. The Newton's were members of the Wesleyan Methodist Church in Canon's Town, as was James Dunstan, Susie's maternal grandfather. William Thomas Newton and Susie Josephine Quick were married in that church 29 July 1909. Where would one go to find bmd records for the church, if preserved? The church, founded in 1878 and still extant in 1978, now appears to be some form of condo. Having another look at WWII correspondence home from Richard John Newton regarding his on-leave visit to Canon's Town in March 1945, he mentions Gladys (family name not stated), living in Nancledra with her son Brian age 12. On Free BMD I have found a marriage of Gladys M.M. Newton to John W. Trudgen, in Penzance December 1924 Vol 5c Page 461. Possibly my Gladys? In other such references: a) Edward and his wife Loveday Ann were living on a farm in Nancygollen with their daughter Ann b) Robert was living in Plymouth with his wife (unnamed), daughter Iris and her daughter Kathleen c) Robert's daughter Mary (family name not stated) was living in Nancledra with her daughter Christine age 10 The search for more post-1901/1945 information continues.

G'day all, I'm having another go at finding Newton descendents post 1901 and have found this on Free BMD: Birth - Leslie G. Newton, December 1929 Helston 5c 201, mother Goldsworthy Death - Leslie G. Newton, June 1935 Helston 5c 189, age 0 This would suggest that there were two different Leslies or that there was a transcription error in the case of the 1935 death. If two different Leslies, perhaps the first died as a baby (no death found) and the second at birth or shortly after? I'm assuming that parents in either case were Edward Passmore Newton and Loveday Ann Goldsworthy. From Free BMD I've also found that Edward and Loveday's daughter Ann, was Loveday Ann G. Newton b. September 1934 Helston 5c 188. Any comments appreciated! Isambard

Well, Tom, 12 years since you first posted this!!! But perhaps …… just perhaps …… there might now be an answer! On reading your resurrected request I tried a general name search on Ancestry with little result. But I then had another look at the Public Family Trees section and found something that does look interesting. Assuming you have access to Ancestry then a look at the following might be useful:- www.ancestry.com.au/family-tree/person/tree/113706425/person/310120157477/factsIn short, this tree claims that William Fuller Newton died at Paget, Bermuda 12th August 1920!! But this appears to be a fault in the Ancestry display because after opening the link and then following the relevant information I discovered that William Fuller Newton died at Canon's Town 12th August 1920 with death attributed to 'strangulated inguinal hernia, peritonitis'. I then checked the Ludgvan Parish Register and found:- William Fuller Newton of Canonstown Ludgvan age 67 buried 14th August 1920 at Ludgvan Sarah Ellen Newton of Canonstown Ludgvan age 81 buried 18th May1935 at Ludgvan I will send copies of the records via email. Ha! Ha! CT, Like rummaging in the old socks drawer eh? I had not realized that I had activated that old query this morning while refreshing my memory about that earlier search. So it was a surprise when your email popped up - found not to be a coincidence! Thank you for the copies of the records from the Ludgvan Parish Register! Perhaps the saying goes "what goes around comes around" applies here, since the Ancestry link above leads to my Newton-MacDougall Family Tree. Thanks to Cousin Sharon I've just received a copy of a newspaper notice regarding Sarah Ellen (Vincent) Newton's funeral, full of interesting names, known and unknown to me. Sarah Ellen Newton resided in Park Villa in Canon's Town. I believe that her son George Henry Newton, and daughter Sarah Ellen (Nellie) Newton, also lived with Sarah Ellen in Park Villa. I'm now looking for a similar funeral notice or other articles for William Fuller Newton. As you note above, he died 15 years earlier - 12 August 1920, in Canon's Town (perhaps in Park Villa?). He was a painter and decorator, active in the business with several of his sons until his death; probably living in Park Villa with his family. So far searches via Ancestry, Google and other means have not yielded any document references or other clues. The search continues! Tom (Isambard)

Hi Tom - after posting my information I proceeded to update information in my database. In doing that I discovered that I already had the death details for William Fuller Newton which would now appear to have come either directly from yourself or from your Newton-MacDougall Tree!! But I did not have any details for Sarah Ellen and had not previously found the burial records so it has turned out to be a useful exercise all round. In a bit of a lull with the fire weather for a period at the moment so I had best keep moving and try to get some more work done (and some sleep!!) while the going is good. A couple of months of fire season left yet so anything might happen - particularly if we use the last California fire season as a guide! CT
