Hello everybody!
My GX4 grandfather is Walter Curnow, bptd Madron 21st April 1776. He is base born , with mother recorded as Alice Curnow. I have been unable to trace any details of Alice - any information would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Craig

I think we may require a larger boat - the one we have is all but overflowing with people searching for the elusive Alice Curnow. The two earliest Alice Curnows I have in my database are in 1661 and then 1765 and neither of them could possibly be she for whom we seek. I am at a loss to think of any way of finding out who Alice was apart from searching evey Will possible for that time period and beginning with Madron/Gulval. And I must stress 'beginning with Madron/Gulval' because the search could well reach far beyond those two Parishes and even then we may find nothing. I thought of checking to see just how many Curnow events there were at Madron so did a check for the time-period 1740-1780. There was only the one event for Curnow in that Parish and that was the baptism of Walter. Gulval in the same time-span produced three baptisms - all in the 1770's to John and Mary (nee Cowles) Curnow. It may be possible to work out where Alice might logically belong by attempting a similar excercise for every Parish in West Penwith. The earliest marriage for an Alice Curnow as shown in 1GI is the 1799 marriage at Zennor to Sampson Curnow. Strange that the 1791 Marriage at Zennor of Alice Curnow to Thomas Renowden does not appear in IGI. Any other suggestions will be welcome.

If nothing else - it's good to know I'm not the only one struggling with Alice!

Craig, have you been in touch with Bill Curnow about Alice --he is the expert on the surname. You can get contact details for him via the Cornwall Online Parish Clerk website as he is online parish clerk for Ludgvan.
