Hmmm - this information is new to me and is most welcome.
However, I have found a problem that needs clarification.
My current data regarding this particular James Quick shows (as does your list in the previous notes) that a son, James, was baptised at Gwennap 2nd March 1714/15.
This provides a conflict with the burial, as posted in your latest, of Margaret Quick.
In chronological order the events would be:-
Margaret Quick bur. Gwennap 9th September 1714
James s/o James Quick bap. Gwennap 2nd March 1714/15
This places James' baptism six months after the burial of Margaret and I find that very unusual, particularly for the time-period involved.
It seems probable that we are dealing with the same family about which you have asked so there is a little problem.
I would suggest that Sandra (Gwennap OPC) be requested to check the information for the baptism of young James to confirm the 'exact' date as written in the PR.
My suspicion just now leads me to 'get on my high horse' again regarding IGI.
If my suspicions are correct then we have another example of IGI being the cause of many misconceptions and mis-information.
For those who are not aware - the IGI is made up of entries from PR's and other documents which have been supplied by LDS members.
Many of the LDS members who have supplied transcribed information over the years have made one very critical error (in my opinion) and it is an error that is very easily compounded.
Any event occurring during the period 1st January - 24th March in the years up until 1753 is where the problem lies.
1753 was the year that the calendar changed from Julian to Gregorian in the UK.
Prior to then the Year started 25th March and ended 24th March which meant that the months of January, February and March were actually the last three months of the year.
What LDS transcribers have done is to 'update the year component' of transcribed information prior to submitting it to the IGI and this is where the problems begin.
My Genealogy program will (if I allow it) automatically adjust the date to reflect the Gregorian calendar but will add a note giving the original Julian date.
If I enter an event date that is already 'year-converted' then the program will adjust it and my information then becomes further corrupted.
My suspicion in this case is that young James Quick was probably baptised 2nd March 1713/14 and that his mother Margaret was buried about six months later.
Confirmation on this Baptism from someone reliable would be a very great help.
Will check back on this in a couple of days.
