A William Trembath married an Honour Gilbert at Morvah in 1687. I culd not find a local christening for her, and am wondering if she might be the Honour Gilbert christened to a James Gilbert in Madron in the 1660s. Does anyone know if this is likely to be correct or not?

Richard and William - spelt nearly the same - these names share the same amount of letters anyway. ;D Some of my 5AM humour - sorry. I have that marriage in my database but, so far, do not know the identity of Honor. As the last known child (that I know of) was baptised in 1706 at Morvah I would work on the theory that Honor would have been about 48-50 years old at the very maximum at that time. That would place her birth at no earlier than 1656-8 but it is likely she was born after that. In this case I should think you may possibly have identified her given that Madron and Morvah share boundaries and many Morvah records (more particularly Marriages) were recorded at Madron. But also remember that GILBERT could also be JELBERT, JELBART etc. As the last child of Richard and Honor Trembath was named 'James' it is certainly a possibility that you have found your girl. The only other sons were Richard, William and John but the fact that James appeared could well be significant. Keep firing this stuff at me and I will do my best.

While I could not find any christening of an Honour Gilbert at Morvah, there is a christening in this name at Madron in 1661, and. Morvah was long a mere chapelry of Madron and as you say cornish terrier weddings of Morvah folk were often recorded at Madron for that reason. The parents married at Madron in 1656 but the maiden name of the bride was not recorded. Another researcher shows this James as a son in turn of John Jelbart of Gulval by a Philippa.

I can work and be happy with that finding and it does make some sense. Okay - I will try to pursue it a little further, but not tonight. I am happy with your results but let's just try to check them out a little further before anything is 'cemented into place'. Well Done.
