As I mentioned in the Lelant/Ludgvan Curnows thread, there was at least one other batch of Curnows at Lelant but they did not migrate in until later.
This post will deal with them....
A RICHARD CURNOW had 4 children christened at Lelant 1709-1717. His wife's name was Bridget, maiden name unknown. Bridget was buried at Lelant in 1753, and Richard appears to be the Richard Curnow buried there in 1751.
The identity of this Richard seems to lie in a burial entry at Towednack for a John Curnow "of Lelant" buried 16 Oct 1697.
This John Curnow married Chesten James at Towednack on 1 Aug 1668, and three months later had a son Richard chr. at Towednack. John's association with Lelant at the time of his death would suggest that this Richard Curnow residing there was his son. John Curnow does not tie in with the other Lelant Curnows, so his association must be with Richard.
A Richard Curnow b. ca. 1668 would be a bit long in the tooth to begin having children in 1707, but as there are a number of missing years in the Towednack Registries just prior to that, he may have had an additional child or two there before moving to Lelant.
John Curnow who married Chesten James would appear to have at least two other identifiable children, besides Richard:
1. JOHN CURNOW
This man married Honor Ninnes at Towednack in 1700. His first child was named "Chesten", so he can with some certainty be placed as a son of John and Chesten.
2. ZACHARIAS CURNOW
Zacharias married Jane Phillips, d/o Francis in 1697. His inclusion as a son of John and Chesten is based on the fact that Richard named a son Zacharias, presumably after his brother. Zacharias and Jane appear to have had only one child, a daughter Jane, who died in infancy.
The million dollar question at this point is: Who are the parents of John Curnow?
Chesten James was (according to our very competent Cornish Terrier) a daughter of Richard James of Towednack. Two years after John and Chesten married, a MARY CURNOW was married to Thomas James, another son of Richard James. It is likely then, that Mary Curnow and John Curnow were siblings.
There are two possible places to put John and Mary - their parents either have to be Thomas Curnow and Joan Martin, or John Curnow and Mary Baragwanath.
The names John and Mary would suggest that the latter placement might be more appropriate.
Comments, discussion please...
