I don't think there has been much conversation about the family of Gilbert Curnow and Prudence Dawn who married at Breage in 1712 But for those Curnow researchers with an interest in the family here is something I found (by accident) earlier tonight.
In searching for Richards Wills at Breage to help with a Harvey connection I can across the 1765 Administration for a John Richards. What caught my eye in this one was:-
7th March 1765
Bond upon the Admion of the Goods etc. of one John Richards lately Deced Intestate Granted to Elizabeth Curnow wido. the Natural & Lawfull Mother of the sd. Deced.
There not being an overabundance of Curnows at Breage it wasn't too difficult to work out the connection. The difficulty would probably have been trying to identify John Richards' mother without this document given there was no indication in the record of her marriage that she had been previously married! The Curnow marriage involved:-
18th June 1758 St Hilary
Gilbert Curnow of this Parish and Elizabeth Richards of the Parish of Breage by Banns - Witnesses:- Henry Pengilley, George Pulglase (groom signed Cornow, bride signed)
I am yet to find a baptism for Gilbert Curnow but he was no doubt a son of Gilbert Curnow and Prudence Dawn who married at Breage 18th October 1712.
The younger Gilbert was first married to Mary Tredrea 2nd February 1740 at Breage with four known children prior to the burial of Mary at Breage 19th March 1756.
I now know that Elizabeth Richards was Elizabeth SYMONS baptised at Breage 25th April 1709 daughter of William Symons and Margaret James who had married also at Breage 5th August 1703. Elizabeth married John Richards at Breage 26th December 1731 and had eight children of whom son John (1765 Admion) was the eldest.
The Administration for John Richards senior was granted to widow Elizabeth 6th July 1753 at Breage.
It was helpful that Elizabeth was able sign her own name as the signiatures on the two Administrations as well as her signiature on the marriage record when she married Gilbert Curnow showed the same person involved in all three events.
Hope that is helpful to someone.
