I am very new to this so please excuse my ignorance of how to write things out. My first Curnow ancestor who came to Australia was Catherine Ann Curnow who was married to William Henry Noye. She was born about 1847 in Towednack to Thomas Curnow and Jane Grenfell. She Married William Henry Noye on the 24 December 1863 in the Towednack Parish Church. They came to South Australia on the ship "Lincoln" which arrived in Port Adelaide, South Australia on the 3 December 1865 with daughter Catherine Jane aged 1. They travelled to Wallaroo on the steamer ship "Kangaroo in 1870 then onto Moonta. In 1880 they went to Broken Hill New South Wales where they lived for the rest of their lives. Catherine died on 10 Feb 1929 and Willim on16 may 1914. William henry Noye's parents were Robert Noye and Mary Ann Nankervis and he was born in Keigwin near St Just in 1841. Going back from them I think I have got a bit mixed up and if anyone can help I would really appreciate it for both Curnow and Noye Thankyou

From some Curnow work I did several years ago in conjunction with Sue I concluded that Thomas Curnow (husband of Jane Grenfell) was baptised at Towednack 11th July 1802 son of William Curnow and Elizabeth Bolitho. Jane Grenfell was baptised at St Just 1st February 1805 daughter of John Grenfell and Jane Roach. On the Noy(e) side I have Robert Noy(e) baptised 29th May 1814 at St Just son of Robert Noy and Loveday Reynolds with the elder Robert baptised at St Just in 1789 to Robert Noy and Elizabeth Bottrell. I hope that will give you something to work with and help you sort out some of the information you may have come across. It does get very confusing so I won't inundate you with information and ideas right now. I am sure some of our other Curnow people will also get involved soon. CT

Catherine Ann Curnow was, to the best we can identify, the last child of Thomas Curnow 1802 & Jane Grenfell's many children (11 I think. ) Catherine was baptised as an adult, at Towednack, 22 June 1862. I have never been able to find her birth in the GRO Index, but CT & I did an exhaustive elimination of all other Catherine Curnows that thereby identified her as belonging to Thomas Curnow & Jane Grenfell. She is present in their household at Chylasson in 1851 census and again in 1861. At her wedding Catherine's father was declared as Thomas Curnow; a witness was James Curnow - her closest-in-age sibling was James Curnow 1844, who was still at home in the 1861 census. The marriage and the baptism can be found on the OPC website www.cornwall-opc-database.org/The naming of William Noye and Catherine Ann Curnow's first daughter as Catherine Jane gives a bit of validation. Catherine Ann's father Thomas Curnow 1802 was brother to my GGGfather John Curnow 1815. Their parents William Curnow and Elizabeth Bolitho are our mutual direct line ancestors, donna1955! I did a lot of work on these Curnows some years ago, with LOADS of help from CT. So many Thomas & William Curnows! Teasing out which Curnows belong in which family takes a lot of time working through the online records available of the various births, baptisms, marriages etc as well as census and emigration information and various other original record sources. But it's very satisfying when you have managed to find the correct "home" for a person in this way! As CT says, best we don't overwhelm you with information right now! Step by step is the solidest approach I found..... Sue

Hi donna1955 and others! I have started to put together a scrapbook for my son and I happened across this thread today. So happy to see someone with ancestors in common. Catherine Anne Curnow was my Great Grandmother. Her son (my grandfather) was Andrew Noye who married Lucy Brock. Hope you are getting on great with your research and would love to know if you've made any headway. I'd love to know if there is a Curnow family history book out there somewhere with our family lines in it. I have also wondered if the Thomas Curnow that saved the police in the Ned Kelly gang story is in any way associated with our family line. Best of luck Jackie

Hi Jackie, another descendant of William Curnow & Elizabeth Bolitho, both born 1779. They had so many children, with many of the descendants emigrating to America & Australia in particular.
As to the Thomas Curnow in the Ned Kelly case, no, not part of our Curnow line.
Good luck in putting together stories and information for your son about your family history - and any old photos that you can get your hands on, they are so wonderful.
Sue
