I came across this entry while transcribing the parish registers for Ilsington in Devon which may be of use to Trewhella researchers:
"Buryed March 06 1685 Thomas Treewhelah, a Stranger" (date is Old Style, 1686 New Style)

Thankyou Roger - this is a new one to me and is very, very interesting.
There was a Trewheeler family around North Molton for a while but they were around 30 years later. As yet I have not been able to figure out just where they belong but this Thomas would seem to be unconnected.
I do have a Thomas baptised at St Erth in 1615 who might be a possibility but the two events are a long way apart in both time and location.
Are there images available online for this region of Devon?

I'm pleased it was of interest to you. I've transcribed a number of early registers from around this area of South Devon but this is the only Trewhella name I've ever found. The actual source images come from the member's area of the Devon Family History Society website. FindMyPast is generally reckoned to be good for Devon PR images, but presumably they wouldn't have the ones hosted by the DFHS site. You can find images of Exeter BTs via the FindMyPast catalogue, though when I've checked the coverage of the BTs for 17th century Ilsington and found it to be very patchy.

Thanks Roger - every link to useful resources is invaluable. FamilySearch also have a collection of Devon BTs as well as Devon Parish Registers although coverage is far from complete. Still, both are very good resources and the images are free to view with many directly downloadable via the download link.
