As part of my endeavours to sort out the families of these 2 men, who may well be brothers and may have married sisters, I obtained their wills.
Simon (m Ann Daniel 28 Dec 1746 at Towednack) left the ideal genealogists will. He named all his children, said who his daughter married and even remembered his recently deceased son's widow and son and named her new husband. At one point I even thought he was going to name the grandfather from whom he inherited the brass bow he was passing on to his grandson but he stopped short of that.
John on the other hand (m Marjory Daniel 10 Nov 1750 Lelant) left 1 shilling to each of his children "whose names I need not here recite" and left everything to his wife Marjory. She did herself leave a will in 1800 but only mentioned her sons John and James and daughters Ann and Marjory (wife of Philip Bennatts). No mention of daughter Mary who I was hoping I could prove married James son of Simon above at St Ives in 1783. One of the witnesses to John's will was Simon Penberthy
Here are my notes from Simon's will in case they are helpful to anyone else.
To grandson Simon son of son William Penberthy £5 payable at age 21 plus large Bible and one pair of silver shoe buckles and one large brass pot which was my grandfather's
To daughter Elizabeth wife of John Stevens of Cowan, tinner one fifth of the value of my household furniture and effects. To be paid to her by executor at rate of 12 pence per week until used up. In this part is included the amount of £4.10s promissory note from her husband which is to be deducted. No share in any tin venture
To daughter Mary the wife of Thomas Champen of Uny Lelant, tinner One fifth part of household goods etc. to be paid to her at rate of 12 pence per week excluding rights in any tin venture
To daughter Ann the wife of Richard Kernick the younger of ST Ives, tinner the same one fifth of household goods etc. plus one sixteenth part of adventures in Rosewall Hill Tin Mine in parish of Towednack also my bed, teakettle and large Hymn Book.
To son James of St Ives, tinner the same one fifth part
Also to grandson Simon son of William one sixteenth part of Adventures in Rosewall Hill tin mine

To John son of John Penberthy late deceased one shilling to be paid immediately
