Hi everyone,
I'm stuck following my patriarchal line and need some help.
Richard Walters bpt 19 may 1741 Crowan
can anyone help with his parentage?
I have details from John Josiah Walters bpt 29 Jan 1832 Crowan who moved to Australia in 1847 to the current day if anyone needs details.
thanks for looking

A Richard Walters married Ann 19.11.1725 in Crowan. Some of the parish records for Crowan are damaged and very difficult to read. This could be the parents you are looking for.

As karlan has said, the Crowan parish registers from the first half of the 18th century are very much damaged by damp, although gaps may be filled in by using Bishop's Transcripts (BTs). You can see for yourself from the images stored on the Family Search website as at familysearch.org/search/image/index?owc=3CB7-168%3A138123201%2C138602701%3Fcc%3D1769414 . Possibly the best source for Crowan researchers is the transcript by W. L. Bawden which contains transcripts from both PRs and BTs and, where appropriate, correlates the two sources. I have only consulted Bawden's work in paper form at the Cornwall Record Office, and I believe that Cornwall Family History Society library has a copy; a recent search online seems to indicate that LDS have filmed the work but it is not available for circulation to Family History Centres. Unfortunately, in common with several other parish marriage records of this date, the parish clerk seems to have recorded only the given name of the bride and not her surname.
