Sorry CT, can't help with the parents of Henry Curnow (CDs of the NSW BDMs stop at 1945)
However, indirect support can be found in the following burials (which I didn’t investigate earlier) which are consistent with the online tree – again all at Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs Memorial Park:
Name Funeral Date Location Age
Eileen Frances Curnow 19/10/2001 AL2C - Anglican Lawn 2C - 51 97
Henry Curnow 01/09/1977 AL2C - Anglican Lawn 2C - 51 77
William Harry Curnow 10/01/1991 AL2C - Anglican Lawn 2C - 51 63
Also, forgot to add earlier, when Lizzie (nee Lunt) Curnow died in 1944 her parents were given as “William Henry” & “Emma“, which is consistent with the arrival into Maryborough, Qld.
It is indeed beginning to look to me as if Lizzie Lunt did follow a path similar to my 3xgreat-grandmother, although it apparently it was even more convoluted.
At the moment this is my best guess as to how I see the key life events for Lizzie Lunt – some still subject to confirmation, although the online trees suggest that some family members are aware of at least part of the story (why else make Lizzie the mother of Richard Rowe Curnow’s children?).
Dec ¼ 1873 - Elizabeth (Lizzie) Lunt born in Warwickshire to William Henry & Emma (nee Squelch) Lunt
03 Aug 1886 - Lizzie, her parents and siblings arrive in Maryborough,Qld on the Scottish Hero
11 Nov 1889 - Qld., Lizzie, heavily pregnant marries the presumed father of her child James Davison
22 Dec 1889 - Qld., one month later, Lizzie has a son George Davison (not clear what happens to him).
Before 1891 - Marriage breaks up (probably no divorce). James Davison remarries (prob. bigamously).
Before 1893 - Lizzie possibly reverts to maiden surname?
Before 1893 - Lizzie meets Richard Rowe Curnow (prob. in Qld.) and forms a defacto relationship
About 1893 - John Herbert Curnow born in Rockampton, Qld. to Richard R. Curnow & Lizzie Lunt
During 1894 - William T Curnow born at Wellington, N.S.W. to Richard R. Curnow & Elizabeth (Lunt)
During 1896 - Alice F Curnow born at at Peak Hill, N.S.W. to Richard Curnow & Elizabeth (Lunt)
During 1900 - Henry Curnow born at Rockley, N.S.W. to Richard Curnow & Elizabeth (Lunt)
Before 1906 - Richard Rowe Curnow and Elizabeth Lunt break up. Richard remains in country N.S.W.
Before 1906 - After breakup Lizzie moves to Sydney and forms defacto relationship with Arthur Griffin
About 1927 - Lizzie Lunt and Arthur Griffin break up (or Arthur dies??). Arthur disappears from the picture by this date in any event.
Before 1934 - Richard R. Curnow reappears in Lizzie’s life, in Sydney.
During 1934 - Richard R. Curnow and Lizzie Lunt marry at Paramatta, N.S.W., thus formalising their relationship 40 years earlier.
During 1934 - Richard R. Curnow dies in Granville, NSW.
During 1944 - Lizzie (nee Lunt) Curnow dies in Marrickville, N.S.W.
The statements above are consistent with the BDM records and also the statements made on other documents such as correspondence with the army regarding the Curnow sons in killed in WWI.
It appears that Arthur Griffin and Lizzie Lunt had no children together.
Arthur Griffin (as Griffen) married 1895 at Bathurst to Rosina Potts
They had one daughter, Rosina Griffin (also registered as Griffen), born 1896 at Cowra, N.S.W. and buried the same year. Apparently Rosina (nee Potts) Griffin died as a result of childbirth, at Cowra, N.S.W. in 1896 as the daughter of Thomas & Mary.
