The John Curnow who married Mrs Jane Angwin in Colorado 4 November 1889 seemed, when we looked at it in 2012, very likely to be the 1863 son of Joseph Curnow & Hannah Eddy, as
However........
I have just found an entry in The Cornishman 17 May 1905 stating that “Mr & Mrs John Curnow arrived at Ludgvan recently from Colorado....... a son of Mr Thomas Curnow of Lower Quarter, and Mrs Curnow was formerly a Miss Williams... sister of Mrs Stamp of Marine Mansion, Morrab Road, Penzance”.
Definitely the Jane Williams who married John Angwin 1872 Pendeen, by 1885 to be found in Colorado, then, and 2nd husband being John Curnow above, since Mrs Stamp – luckily an unusual name in Cornish parts – was Mary 4th daughter of Mrs Williams of Marine Mansion, Penzance per newspaper report of marriage 23 October 1902, CT & Zibetha having “proved” in 2012 that this is the family to which Jane Williams/Angwin/Curnow belongs.
And John Curnow is now clearly son of Thomas Noall Curnow 1826 Ludgvan and his wife Mary Thomas. In 1910 these Curnows are back in Colorado, now in Teller, with children James Angwin 22, John Curnow 19 & Charles Curnow age 7 co-resident. (Jane born 1850 bearing a child when age 53 is somewhat questionable.... perhaps really a Curnow nephew, or an illegitimate Angwin granddaughter, but that's for another day.)
Meanwhile, I have now found the John Curnow we had previously thought the likely chap to have married Jane Williams/Angwin: John Henry Curnow of Joseph Curnow & Hannah Eddy (named on JHC's 1936 death certificate) went to Canada in 1908 with wife Rosevena Welch (married Truro June Q 1908) and 5 Welch children, who were enumerated 1911 Canada as Curnows. Rosevena was nee Peak, a Pendeen girl like John Henry. Where this John Henry Curnow was in 1891 & 1900/1901, I do not know.
I believe the above 2 John Curnows had grandfathers who were brothers, John 1780 & James 1783 of William Curnow~Alice Richards.
So, apologies to anyone who took at face value our earlier (2012 in thread “James Williams”) deliberations on the identity of John Curnow 1863 who married Mrs Jane Angwin 1889 Colorado!
Sue
- in 1900 Gilpin Colorado he is just 2 Enumeration Sheets away from their sons Joseph & Andrew and
- taking his declared birth of September 1863 as correct, that is a good fit with the baptism of John to Joseph & Hannah 1 November 1863
