Hiya,
A copy & transcription, that I have, of a page from the 1871 census lists the location as being "S Nees". Is this an actual place in Cornwall, or is it reasonable to assume it is actually St Ives, albeit written really badly?

Hi again Shelley. You have hit the button right on the head!! It is, in fact ST IVES and even though transcribers are meant to transcribe 'as is' (i.e. exactly what they see) it is not very difficult to see something like this and think about it before actually writing down 'first thoughts'. If you look at the entries on the original forms it certainly can look like 'St Nees' at first glance but a closer look shows that it is really St Ives. Will be talking with you in the Quick forum.
