I have a St Ives marriage record for a marriage between Peggy Wallis and John Polmear 10 Jan 1847 by Banns John Polmear 23 bachelor Fisherman of St. Ives (Father: Henry Polmear, Fisherman) Peggy Wallis 22 spinster of St. Ives (Father: [blank] ) Witnesses: Thomas Williams, John Quick I can find Peggy Wallis and John Polmear in the 1851 CensusPiece: HO107/1917 Place: Uny Lelant -Cornwall Enumeration District: 2e Civil Parish: St. Ives Ecclesiastical Parish: - Folio: 425 Page: 24 Schedule: 110 Address: Back Road ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Surname First name(s) Rel Status Sex Age Occupation Where Born Remarks POLMEAR John Head M M 27 Fisherman Cornwall - St Ives POLMEAR Peggy Wife M F 26 Cornwall - St Ives POLMEAR Mary Dau - F 3 Cornwall - St Ives POLMEAR John Son - M 1 Cornwall - St Ives A few problems I can't find Peggy Wallis in the 1841 Census - have searched under Margaret and Meg as well. Peggy was born about 1825 in St Ives BUT were her parents married? I don't have a baptism for Peggy or the names of her parents. Was Peggy really born in St Ives or was it somewhere else possibly St Just? Did both Peggy and John die before 1861? I can't find Peggy and John Polmear in the 1861 census but I do find what may possibly be their two children John and Mary ? Sarch - when the father is not recorded at marriage it generally indicates an illegitimate birth.
I believe you will find that this is Peggy:-
Peggy Williams Wallis bp. 9th March 1825 St Ives bastard of Peggy Wallis
Peter Noall Wallis bp. 13th September 1826 St Ives bastard of Peggy Wallis
John and Peggy Polmear had two children that I was previously aware of:-
Peter Noall Polmear bp. 1854 St Ives Primitive Methodist Elizabeth Noall Polmear bp. 1858 St Ives Primitive Methodist
John Polmear's mother was Elizabeth Noall so I would be guessing that Peter Noall Polmear may have been named for Peggy's brother.
It is also possible that this was the name of Peggy's de facto.
John Polmear was bp. 26th September 1823 at St Ives s/o Henry and Elizabeth (nee Noall) Polmear.
After Henry died Elizabeth married John Quick. (Actually John Jenkyn Quick)

Hello Sarch 1871 Census St. Ives Cornwall RG10; Piece: 2333; Folio: 73; Page: 40 (The enumerator seems to have recorded them as PALMERE and his handwriting makes St Ives look like St Nees!!) Peggy also states on the census that her marriage lasted 64 years, a total of 7 children were born all still living at the time of the 1911 Census. I think it more likely that the 1861 children you found are the children of Matthew and Betsy of Zennor. Hope this helps Best regards HeatherC

Sarch - what information do you have to suggest that Peggy was daughter of James and Margaret? I ask because there was another Peggy Wallis (d/o Nicholas and Mary) baptised at St Ives in October 1792 - just a couple of months after the daugher of James and Margaret. CT

I cannot be absolutely certain at the moment but it appears Peter NOALL was most likely:-
Peter s/o Peter and Mary Noall bp. 2nd October 1796 St Ives
Peter Noall married Mary Harry 4th August 1774 St Ives
Unfortunately Peter appears to have been 'at sea' at the time of the 1841, 1851 and 1861 Census and there seems to be no death record for him in FreeBMD.

Sarch: this is a "shot in the dark" and could be rubbish, but..... Peggy Wallis of 1792 could be the mother of Peggy Margaret KERNICK, St Ives, abt 1828, 1841 Census. PMK`s parents presumed to be William and Peggy (being 1841 it does not state "father" etc). Ditto 1851 Census.Several children listed. But nothing else seems to"match". David

Thanks Heather C So I mixed up the Peggy Wallis both born 1792 I have sorted them out Peggy Wallis daughter of Nicholas and Mary Leddra i have married to Peter Noall 09 Oct 1826 St Ives Peggy Wallis daughter of James and Margaret Harry I now have married to William Kernick 23 Oct 1824 St Ives I now notice that James Wallis married to Margaret Harry and Nicholas Wallis married to Mary Leddra are brothers How could they create this confusion by giving their daughters born the same year the same name! ;D The girls probably went to school together as well - the teachers must have had a fun time. A little something to help prove which Peggy Wallis was which. From St Ives Wesleyan Chapel Baptisms:- 4th September 1825 Ann daughter of William Kernick of St Ives (miner) and Peggy his wife, who was the daughter of James and Margt Wallis was born 7th August 1825 and baptised by Joseph Burgess CT PS - And there is now an explanation for the name 'Peggy Williams Wallis'. Peggy would have named her for her stepmother. Nicholas Wallis was first married to Mary Leddra and then married the widowed Margaret Williams in 1803.

And just as a matter of interest! William KERNICK was the uncle of my 2xgt-grandmother Betsy NOALL. William's eldest sister Nancy KERNICK married William NOALL at St Ives 27th December 1810. Betsy NOALL was baptised at St Ives 2nd February 1823. Benjamin TREWHELLA married Betsy NOALL 5th October 1850 at Lelant. CT
