Is this a coincidence.....
I have put this in a new thread but it relates to the thread on Paul, Daves and Davies....
First a few facts,
After rooting round for hours last night I am pretty sure that our William Davies cannot be the son of Christopher and Phillis as the dates for their children overlap without their being a William. I looked at all the possibilities for births around the time and also for baptisms before William's marriage in 1826, just in case of a late or adult baptism, not unheard of. Anyway still no luck.
Moving on to one of Williams's sons... Thomas Henry, it gets interesting.
A witness at Thomas Henry's marriage to Eliza Jane Rowe in 1861 is Abraham Lawry. Checking Abraham Lawry's wedding we find Thomas Henry Davis. Hmmmm...... I started to wonder if there be any connection between the two. Abraham Lawry married Selina Dale, Seline Dale was the daughter of Francis Dale and Alice Williams, in turn son of Richard Dale and Martha Pollard.
Another Alice Williams marries James Davey b1765 of Mousehole/Paul, who is the son of Thomas Davey b1717 and Alice Williams(again). It starts to get interesting here....
James and Alice have the followin children recorded-
1806 Benjamin Davey (m Elizabeth Curnow???) recorded at Paul
1803 Margaret Davey recorded at St Buryan
1802 Mary Davey recorded at St Buryan
James and Alice are still alive at Mousehole in 1841, neighbours of the Maddern family into whom a later Davies married. We also find on the 1841 an Alice Davey living at Kenidjack with Dales in St Just.
Now what I am getting from this is there seems to be a connection between the Williams family, the Dale family and the Williams family and the Davey family, later we find Thomas Henry Davis at a wedding and vice versa- a relative? Although this is speculation at its best/worst , it seems as though there may well be a link.
Furthermore, if we look at the names of William Davies descendants we find
Eliza
William Henry
Selina Davies born 1860
-Mary Jane
-Thomas Henry
Alice Davies born 1872
-John
Alfred James Davies
-Edwyn
Now looking at the info I have, the names highlighted above are not to be found in the maternal lines of the people mentioned. This brings me to my hypothesis,
What if our William Davies was actually William Davey, and therefore possibly a son of James Davey and Alice Williams? This could explain some names, it is not impossible for Davey to become Davis to become Davies, I have other examples. If we can find some connection between these Alice Wiliams' and the Lawry Dale conection would there be a case for this? I hasten to add that there is no record of a William Davey either, but as we have seen some people were never recorded at all.
I know I am probably barking up the wrong tree, but this Lawry-Dale- Williams thing is intriguing....
