Thanks to the 1911 census I have found my great-grandfather Robert Davies and co living at "Penwith House, near Newlyn, Pz"- this is the address given. The only Penwith House I can find is the old First and Last House at Land's End... now I know this was once in the possession of the Vingoes and that may great-great grandmother was Annie Vingoe so it might be a connection- otherwise does anyone know of any other possible "Penwith Houses"....? Much obliged.... M

Malcolm - what was the occupation of Robert DAVIES? I somehow don't think the old First and Last would be the 'Penwith House' here given it's distance from Newlyn and suspect there must be another establishment of that name. 'Newlyn' may be the best one to answer this but I have been racking my brain trying to remember places. There was a Trinity Building in Newlyn (no doubt still there) and my poor brain keeps trying to tell me that it was called Penwith House - but I am by no means sure. So if Robert was a mariner of some sort then the reference 'might' be to something akin to the above. Let's see what our Cornish-born and resident members can tell us.

I can't think of a Penwith House in Newlyn.
The name Penlee comes to mind but that is all.
I will continue to keep my brain in gear for this problem!!!!!!

Malcolm, I've just googled 'Penwith House' Newlyn and come up with various entries, including a 2002 planning application for Penwith House, St Peters Hill, Newlyn. Go to the advanced search option and input Penwith House as a phrase. Also various references to the Vingoe family. I would bear in mind that house names do change over the years, and I could rename mine Penwith House today if I wanted to, albeit nowhere near Newlyn. Happy hunting, Mike

Hi all! I think I have found it, yes indeed it seems to be the house on top of St Peter's Hill, Newlyn- that makes a lot of sense in the light of family "lore" and history. Thanks to everyone, especially An Gof for that one! Another piece in the puzzle fixed....

Is Penwith House right at the very top of St Peters Hill?
I used to live in Church Street and I can't place Penwith House at all.

New Member Here: What a wonderful site! At long last I am able to find possible relatives. To Malcolm, are you the son of Malcolm Davies (Bud)? As your great Grandfather was Robert Davies and your great great Grandmother was Annie Vingoe, I assume that we are related. My father was Robert Davies GC. Are you aware of a cousin in Perth Australia? Also a cousin in USA?
